My Wifes edition 30 dsg went into vw main dealer today for its service we reported a kangaroo ride effect when driving along in first at idle speed. We had a call after 4hours saying in was the Metronic sensor.£1800 including labour!!!!!! thank God we had a 1 year warranty from them when we brought it 6 months ago including two free services.
I hope no one else has had this problem, needless to say we are not impressed.

What year is the car? My '08 had mild symptoms and the mechatronic was replaced under warranty, even though the diagnostics showed no faults. Been brilliant ever since!

DSG is great but I fear a lot of cars in the future being scrapped due to gearboxs being beyond economical repair.

we had an A3 sline with dsg. It was a pain in cold weather. Our drive point towards house and the gearbox just didn't know what to do
at times. We feared the mechtronic was failing so sold it
when buying the golf we thoght about dsg but reading forums thye still can be problematic so went for a manual.

The mechatronics unit is known to be a part of the car that can be faulty. Usually the problem is there from new and once it has been replaced with a fault free one you are good to go.

+1
I have read about this being more common in 57/08 plate cars.

If it is a 57/08 plate car, then that may be well the case.

Mk5golfgti.co.uk has a dsg mechatronics poll running. Worth a look ironman.

mine does it, but only a bit when warming up, otherwise fine, only got 21k on it, is 56 plate

Hard luck OP.
The only reason I bought the VW Golf was for the Borg Warner DSG.
It's just ace.

One of the biggest known problems with the DSG...and does seem to affect 07 onwards.
There is actually a VW work note on DSG's mechatronic unit so you can ask you dealer to check the part code against the unit and if its within certain numbers they will do it. And I believe out of warranty if you push it. Most dealers will be aware of it.
My GTI was DSG, and was fine but my R32 had to have this done. Was plain awful. I was within warranty period so wasn't a quibble anyway.
However, personally I think the DSG doesn't work as brilliantly with the V6 as it does with the TFSI lumps. You really do have to learn how to drive it without being jerky. But in S and Manual it is sooooo much fun.
If anyone is worried, get it quickly checked by anyone with VAGCom or at the dealer. If it within the limits....get on the phone to Warranties Direct and sign up for a year. Then book it in with symptoms of jerkiness ;-)
