hi ive just bought a mk3 gti and have some 18s off me mk4 will they fit straight on ???
my wheels are et 42 and the standards are 32-38
do i need any spacers or will they rub on the arches ??
cheers del
-
as far as i knw mate they will go straight on not sure about if you'll need to do any arch work or not but im sure some of theother guys on here can tell you for deffinate
-
Don't think they will mate. they will rub on your strut
-
ya can, depending on what profile tyre they have on!
just have to see if they will foul anything important though!!
also as a side note, it will drive like sh!t and look like a tractor, 18's are just too big, but hey, your car ;)
-
thanks guys for quick replys
i did line them up with the car yesterday and thought they looked too big !!
i will fit them wen it stops bloody raining to see bout any rubbing issues but it might be easier to swap them for sum smaller ones !!
thanks again del

I went to fit some rs8 wheels to mine to pass a mot. tyres where 215/35/18 small and stretch depends on the ET. since his is 48 or something the wheels will need spacing out to clear the strut and then you will have a problem with rubbing the arch.
Best bet is to put one on mate.
-
don't worry about the rain you pussy  It's only water
-
im too old for messing about in the rain !! so pussy yes
-
Tbh it's drive awful!
17s are bad enough!
-
18"s will not a mk3, way too big and will not clear the arches and rear beam even with 35 section tyres.
They also will look daft.
-
the only reason for the 18s was cus i had them and by the sounds of it the tyres are too big !! 225/45/18
so will be in the for sale section lol
-
16s are the best bet, try swapping some for BBS RX2's

No chance they will fit with 225's, even with 215/35's you going to need major work and they still can end up hitting the beam.

yeah defo gonna sell !! found sum luvly wheels on ebay now

Has been done. E38 boys. Looked sh!t, apparently drove like a train and driveshaft went. Dunno if it's related with the driveshaft though.

18's on a mk3 have been done well before some guy on E38 broke a driveshaft. In a modern sense with stance in mind it hasn't been done much but there are a few in America and some more in Germany and Belgium who have pulled them off spectacularly. I'm sure I posted some pictures of more recent ones last time the topic of 18's on mk3s came up.

Anything "Can" be made to look good in theory ;)
But with the scene nowadays 16's are spot on for looks and drivability!
Can't go wrong with a set of merc wheels with some nice boots
Although i do like that racing Mk3 :embarassed:
