Hi all am new here, I have just started ownership of an 8v gti which needs a little work to get bit back to its former glory. One of the jobs that needs doing is the headlights. If you look at the front of the car square on the o/s headlight appears to be slightly out of line. I have measured the gap between the headlight and the wing on both sides. The gap between headlight and wing on the o/s is 4mm in the top corner and 4mm in the bottom corner. The gap between wing and headlight on the n/s is 4mm in the top corner closing to 2mm in the bottom corner! Any help on how to solve this would be greatly appreciated. Dale
(Also i want to start mk3 project thread, do you need to have minimum ammount of posts to send pm to jv?)

You need 10 post to PM :)

they look crossed eyed because of the dual chamber i thought.
one eye looking at you, one eye looking for you

They are definately not lined up correctly the gaps in wings proves that surely? I will try posting a photo tomorrow to illustrate as am off to work now, Dale.

I'm sure some photo's would help :afro:
Are they Hella headlights or a cheap copy? The reason I ask is that I have some Depo headlights as spares and they sit slightly 'cross-eyed' simply because they aren't Hella ones

Well heres a pic if you look closely you can see the off side headlight seems to droop inward giving a crosseyed look.
This is my first go at photobucket too so hope it works

Also have checked and both headlights are hella units.

I'd pop the grill off and see whats going on with the bolts holding the light in, you could always use some washers on the bottom right hand bolt to push back out which might even it up?
You need the grill off really to see whats going on

Yea I can see the gap. Looks like the clip may have dropped.

Ok lads will remove the grill as soon as ive got chance. Car is on the road till end of month then getting sorn when mot runs out. So there is an ever growing list of jobs to be completed on it to get i in a state im happy with. Not a bad little car for free though! Are the grills easy enough to remove?

Yup, just a few clips. There is 1 at either end underneath the headlights then 4 running along the top of the grill that clip into the slam panel. Just use a screw driver to carefully push the clips down to pop the grill off. Be very gentle with them though because they snap easily

Thanks for the advice guys as soon as i've reached 10 posts i will start a project thread and list all the jobs needing doing on my 8v. Its only a second car the minute but in the short time ive had it i've developed an ever growing soft spot for it. I have some big plans for this little car. Dale

Start yourself a dub rides thread instead, that way people can give you feedback as well. Dub projects doesn't allow that
