Lots, just use stronger / uprated rod bolts.

Can they cope with chucking a turbo on? or what about a supercharger?

They can, as said use stronger rod bolts they're the first thing to let go, also use a thicker headgasket to drop the compression or you'll quickly say bye bye to your pistons

Yep or spacer plate, much better bet is lower comp pistons.
