Hi people, I need your help.
I'm due to look at my mates mk3 tomorrow to try and cure his running probs but I would like an idea of where to start...
Here's his description
Right, initially the revs would dive when you dip the clutch, which was only a problem when coming to a stop, as the car would die. Now it's evolved into erratic revs, loss of power, and cutting out. It seems to be ok when cold, and starts to manifest after 10 min+ of driving. My uneducated guess is something to do with the airflow. I've heard there's a valve that can get gummed up, which can cause issues. But I wonder if it's airflow meter playing up - although I'd have thought the meter would cause issues from cold?
Any ideas?

This is a classic sign of a dirty throttle body, giving it a really good clean with some carb cleaner would be a good start

Ecu temp switch maybe if its only running rough when warm.

Sorry guys MK3 8v.
I'll give the throttle body a clean then, I've got vag com so will give it a scan too. Temp sender sounds fimiliar from the mk4 so will look there too.
Ill let you know how it goes

Quick update, went out in it last night and nothing went wrong lol
But I did notice the revs dropping when coming to a stop if you dip the clutch. Also checked with VAG COM and nothing on there. Should the ECU take around 5 secs to recognise that the MAF has been plugged back in?
Any more input would be appreciated, we're stumped. 2.0 GTI 8V
