Hi I haven’t driven my car in a week or so and it’s not being very juddery and stalling. After reading the forums I think it sounds like a MAF problem. It always did it intermittently but normally sorted itself out. Is there a tutorial anywhere that explains how to clean it I don’t even know where to locate it so any help would be great thanks.

The MAF is located on the pipe that comes out of your airbox. It's a little black plastic thing held in by a couple of anti tamper torx screws. Remove the cable and undo these, and lift it off very carefully. You will see 2 prongs with a wire running between them, this is the sensor. Give it a good spray with electrical contact cleaner. Connect it all back up, bu leave it for a good hour to evaporate and dry off properly. Start your car and away u go! This is a guide for a 2.0 gti but I'm sure most are similar. I did this to mine and it sorted it out a treat! Hope this helps mate

Hi thanks for the help I had a look today but couldn’t actually find it. It’s a 96, 1.6 cl, petrol if that makes any difference, tbh I know very little about cars so is more than likely just me being dense.

Air leak? Temp sensor?
Yours hasn't got a MAF.
Mine was getting extremely rough running and juddery when warm. Stalled a couple of times. New temp sender and all's good.

Ahh I see makes sense why I couldn't find it then I just read so much about the MAF I assumed it was that. After driving it today for about 15 mins it was running ok after nearly stalling about 3 times but pushing through it. I will check out the temp sensor. Thank again
