Title: MK3 8V GTI fan problem
Post by: abelf on 06 January 2011, 15:45
Hi,

Recently got myself a '93 MK3 8V GTI and its developed cooling fan problems.

Basically the radiator fan won't switch on when the engine is hot enough (86deg and higher).

I have checked that the fan motors works, the fan relay in the little black box above the gear box works, the rad thermo switch is brand new and the fuse is good. Please help me.

I don't know if its linked but the mpg has recently dropped too, on avergae by 6mpg. (e.g. motorway cruising was 40mpg now at 34mpg)

Cheers

I thought that the rad fan was set to 110c or something similar - i.e. higher than the t-stat opening temp (~90c)

Possibly you don't have a problem.
