Post by: ben9790 on 06 January 2011, 11:41
Hi,

just wanted to know if anyone has remaped a 1.4 tsi yet? and if so was it worth it? did it turn out ok? or was there anything thats gone wrong since as i want to get it done but im worried that a 1.4 engine wont be able to handle all the extra tourque for a very long time.

You might be interested to read the latest Car magazine. There is an article by Ben Barry about the Superchips re-map of the 138 bhp engine on a Golf GT TSI.

Bhp is up from 138 to 180, and torque up from 162 lb ft to 203 lb ft. Cost £445.

It is a Bluefin upgrade. The upgrade works on the turbo and therefore the boost is highter up the rev range. This is due to the idiosyncratic nature of this engine which has both a supercharger and a turbocharger.

Is that is the Diesel as the petrol variant doesn't come in that BHP?

I am just reproducing the figures from the article, verbatum.
It is the supercharged/tutrbocharged 1.4 litre engine and by the torque figures I would assume it is petrol.
Nowhere in the article does it mention that it is a Diesel.
I was also a bit surprised by the pre-mapped bhp and torque figures.
I have searched the VW webpage and cannot find this particular engine!
Maybe Ben Barry knows something we don't. It has been written that he can be pretty bad with numbers!
Strange, very strange.

According to the Superchips Bluefin (http://www.mybluefin.co.uk/curves/VAG14TFSi122.pdf) web site:
The 122BHP engine goes to 155BHP and 248Nm

Cheers AMW1.
The GT only comes in 2 guises the 1.4 TSI petrol 160PS and the 2 Litre Diesel 138PS.
It looks like the article has mixed both of those cars.
Not like a journalist to let facts get in the way of a good story
