Title: why is this metering head different

why is there what looks like a fuel filter plummed into the metering head?  :shocked:

Somthing weird has happened in the past. Its not exactly a bad idea to have it there but still.... pretty random. I can only guess that it is to add more shiny parts to the metering head?

Although the Metering Head is mounted on the N/S in a MK1 in the same direction of the engine, they all have their fuel filter there. mine is like this and this is normal.

I always look at this and think it is not safe when you look at fuel that close to the battery in a crash.  :smiley:

I know what you mean.  I never thought it was a good idea either being so close together.  As you know I stuffed mine hard on that side, the battery was damaged as a result, leaked its contents and corroded all electricals in that corner.  Luckily there was no damage to the metering head as there is quite a lot of fuel pressure in those lines and that filter!

the fuel filter is usually under car on 16v - that item also looks like the small air box pre 1990 version.
