Title: odd electrical fault

hi all when starting from cold if i use the rear wash wipe just after, the revs increase as if i'm

pressing the throttle but doesn't do it after i've pulled away  :huh:

i'm thinking its a short somewere but why would it affect the engine ?

has this happened to anyone before or is my gti haunted ? :evil:

had a similar problem, but my car was cutting out as soon as the revs climbed, turned out to be a shaged alternator do a volt test.

i assume it should show about 14v charging at the battery ?  :huh:

or does it need to be the ampage  output level i need to check ?  :huh:

Should be between 14.2 and 14.4v apparently  :lipsrsealed:

What engine ?

Could be a idle valve fault.

hi its the 1989 pb digifant engine with only 103000 on the clock   :shocked:

i have recently changed the idle valve as it was reving up and down on its own , i found another

used bosch unit and am seeing how it goes  :rolleyes:

Are new bosch idle valve still available or just too expensive ?  :huh:

just a follow up on the replacement idle valve; it is also sh1t as it stopped dead in tonights rush hour and i

 nearly got squashed by a HGV   :shocked: :shocked: :shocked:

then it stalled again later in traffic ; not a happy dubber  :angry: :angry:

check the idle switch clicks when throttle opens and shuts, if not make sure the throttle closes firmly to the stop. if the throttle cable is adjusted too tight it will hold the throttle open a bit.

next look at the wires to the throttle switches to make sure they haven't snapped behind the inlet. the idle switch is on the bottom of the throttle body so is a real arse to get to if it needs adjusting., some kind of angle screwdriver is needed here

 GSF still stock idle control valves but its a little on the pricey side... Depends what you want and if you're certain the replacement valve isn't working properly.

hi thanks for the replys will look at the wiring tommorrow and check all the cables too  :smiley:

gsf look to be selling idle valves for about £205 + vat quite a lot but if it cures the probs it will be worth

 it  :laugh:

Fair play to you. Makes a mockery of the duffers that write 'rare' over parts on fleabay when you look at what GSF still stock  :laugh:
