Hi All,
Just bought my first Golf - GTI Mk5 DSG.
It has a pretty hideous phone prep mounted on the dashboard, link to photo below. Does anyone recognise it and know if I can get an iPhone cradle for it?

mmm im not sure where you can find one, maybe have a look at the apple website but you will be paying a lot of money for it, have you checked out ebay yet? Maybe something on there?
Not even sure that apple ever actually came out with a hands free car kit cradle?
-
hello and welcome, Not sure you can do much with that one as its probably for a nokia as most ex reps cars had those.... If you want a taylor made mount try looking up some products by Brodit..... don't think they have their own site, their products are sold through various stockists but easily found on google as I just did.
I had a brodit kit in my MK5 for my work phone. It was wired into the car for hands free just like the one in your picture but wasn't so ugly and was angled at the driver. They also make upper dash and vent area mounts.
They do make iphone mounts and kits plust most other phones... they even do ipods.

looks like it and don't think he'll be able to do anything with it other than put the phone it was designed for in it..
-
cant he just remove it and live with the hole it leaves ??

Maybe but thats why I replied with a brodit solution as I believe he wanted to plumb an iphone in, if he got one it would hopefully cover the holes left by that one and usually brodit ones don't require any drilling.

Ohh sorry bud missed the iphone bit thought he just wanted to lose the eyesore of a cradle lol

This is what you need and in my opinion, the best option...

I don't think you can get an iPhone cradle for this kit. I've got the same instalation which was a factory option and rather than it sit there looking ugly and doing nothing, I also got one of these.
Works a treat and at that price, you can't go wrong...

The above one is the one I have fitted to my R32. Its brilliant. Works perfectly with my iPhone and is so good I can leave my iPhone charging in the arm rest and do everything via voice commands. Its brilliant. I think the brand is Bury and its the VW version of the CC9060.
I am going to upgrade the headunit at some point but will definitely be keeping this unit.
The other great thing, is if you have it wired up properly it is also an A2DP unit so you can connect your phone and play music through it. However, mine is not wired to do this (it doesn't switch the stereo off for some reason) but will be when I have the headunit done.

The one in the pic is indeed the VW factory option and the only way to properly remove it is to replace the glovebox.
Fortunately its relatively easy to do and when I looked into the cost of a new glovebox it was surprisingly cheap - don't remember exactly but around the £30 mark.

That's correct, mine does mute the stereo as soon as it rings and is full functional with my iPhone. It is the VW version of the Bury unit but unfortunately the Bury has slightly different mounting guides, otherwise it would be a cheaper option.

This is what I did with mine and installed the Skoda Bluetooth kit instead.

Hey Rabbit, any chance of a pic? I'd be interested to see how it looks in the car!
Cheers

sh!t Rabbit, that looks pretty slick!! I think I'll have to look into these bad boys!
Any idea what the model is called?
-
The one I have is the VW one, but the normal unit is the Bury CC9060. Only main difference I can tell is the VW is mono colour but the full one is multi colour.

I got mine from a company called dsgwagen on eBay, best price at the time. The company who makes them for VW is indeed Bury, but unfortunately the mounting guides are slightly different for the VW kit. Not sure if it can be adapted to fit, although it might be worth checking it out as it is cheaper than the OEM version.
