Porsche use (5x130) we use (4x100) the proper way to sort them is to change the hub to a VR6 5x100
VR6 larger CVs and matching 5x100 hubs or early passat hubs 5x100 then do the adaptor to (5x130)
There are companies that can machine off something, but its not safe due to the pattern stud offsets being 4x100 already! Not saying it can't be done, but with certain forces, drilling brake discs and wheel bearing stress the thickness of the adaptor plates would be lets say quiet thick to cope with a direct adaptor to cope with the mixed stud pattern!

Yes like I said H&R or FK do something, but depends if you use it as a daily or just for show?
Think about the pattern 4x100 to 5x130 there would be overlap correct? Now think about brake discs and the redrilling? Like I said just think about what you are converting? Your car, up to you what you think is safe and easy! I'm just the information monkey who offers options

Jay, i have 4x100 to 5x130 adapters and there isn't any overlap on the bolts.

The wife did 8 thousand miles in her cabrio on adapters and i've been running my golf for 6 months.

130 is a big enough pcd for there not being any overlap.

To the o.p. Thickness depends more on the offset of the wheels rather than size

What about the brake discs?
Give it a year then check the wheel bearings guess it depends on how you drive and what golf its on?

Damn you dave I was going to say bout et. Good job I read through 1st. I don't see how it will affect the brake disc though jay? Maybe its me just having an idiot moment though.

Hey like I said how much meat will you have between the 4x100 to 5x130?
Your discs will have to be re drilled to match the 5 stud by overlap I mean how much meat between holes?
By all means run them at your own risk I'm old Skool but hey shoot me?
In America they are illegal (due to accidents) only in Europe you can by H&R's
Like I said I know from an engineers perspective on dynamic forces on those hubs!
From a cool perspective yeah get em and drive hard see what happens
Offset can be affected depends how thick the adaptors are after all thicker the safer but depending upon what alloys are running with them, it will push them out maybe too far out? So its important you know what offset you have and going to run 7J would be 7.5J possibly or even more I don't run spacers for that stress hence I prefer performance than show (shrug shoulders)

Jay. Not sure if we have crossed lines. Adapters bolt to the hub through the disc using the vw's 4x100 pcd. The wheel bolts to the adapter. No need to drill the disc.

Are you thinking of redrilling hubs?

Ahhhh I see. I don't run spacers but I have et25 wheels on my car which stick out a fair bit. But are under the arch. U can get different thickness adaptors though can't you so its all on a preferance I spose mate. I'd rather use adaptors on the perfect set of wheels if needed.

Sorry Jay I'm going to agree with Lewis, 4x100-5x130 is one of the most common adaptors. people have been running them for years!

p.s. cookie cutters are grim. waaay too 'retro' for a mk2.

Hey Joe not saying you can't do it! Like I've said you can do what you like, but I'm outlining the proper way of doing it by VR6 five stud conversion. If adaptors are all good with you, thats fine run them I'm not a fan for reasons all ready outlined simples!
I'll stick with mmmmmmmm cookie cutters
Forget anything I've written its all bollocks and really doesn't count for sh!t!
