Title: Painting tyre writing
Post by: Khare on 03 January 2011, 03:40
Just wondering what the general view on this is? I saw it the other day on a honda civic and although I used to think it looked gash, I quite liked it in the flesh.

I would have said the painting on a big sidewall would look cooler, American muscle look.

See beamers are big side walls and when ma mate had 60profile on his wheels he had white writtin. Was cool as. So big side walls r better.

I think it looks good but what paint would you have to use? Surely it'll have to be a special type?

if you have decent tyers and want to shout about it you can do a horny and colour the letters in, it can look good.

if you have sh!t tyers you can still clolout the letterrs in but it will look so gay you may as well do it with pink paint and paint your wheels purpel

That looks nice, I was thinking white paint. I've got Toyo proxes T1Rs so I think they'd look ok.

Surely it doesn't matter what tyres you have you could paint anything on them and that would be all anyone would see (I'm off to tippex myself a set of toyo's )

Doesn't work for me, just a bit too retro race on the wrong car.  Looks better on a fully race prep'd car with race decals, etc.  But on a standard looking mk3 it just looks out of place.  Was also the rage in the 70's I remember my cousin white lettering the tyres on his Triumph Dolomite.

BTW You can buy specific tyre paint just for the job.

Yeah don't use white Hammerite. I did and it went brown.

Search google for "Tyre Pen" they work best and last quite a while but you will need to touch them up (ooh eerr) as the flex causes the paint to crack and fall off over time.

Personally reckon it looks ok on a track car (horney's being a great example) but would look sh!te on a road car. Asking for unwanted attention in my opinion.

Frost restoration sell the pens and paint though
