In a quest to try and consolidate a few similar threads, I am trying to compile a complete list of the main differences between the UK MY2010 and MY2011 GTI & GTD cars from the base MY2009. I have tried to add the time the update was introduced. (There are other changes that are for all Golfs.)
Please post omissions so that I can keep this page updated!
MY2010 (from week ?? 2009)
MY2010 (from week 22 2010)
- Bluetooth module changed from Sim Access Profile to Hands Free Profile (iPhone friendly)
- Hill hold
- Images on RHS of steering wheel changed
- LED rear light cluster (non-smoked, unlike R)
- 18-inch Charleston shadow alloys (replace Vancouver)
MY2011 (from week ?? 2010)
- Black GTI / GTD logo on steering wheel
- Colour Multi-function display now an option
- Full postcode search on RNS510 (with version 7 of maps)
- LED day running lights (when with Bi-Xenon)
I am sure there is more.
-
search snoopy's posts and evo1986 posts as they usually post what the changes are and when they take place.

I'm sure i read somewhere that for MY2011 build cars GTI's will have a 'red lining' around the outer edge of the speedo and rev counter.
And what was this about keyless entry is that true?
-
My GTD has the red lining around the edge of the speedo and rev counter but I thought all versions of GTD and GTI had this???
On pic 8 it shows new and old DSG gear levers - mine looks like neither of the above
-
My GTD has the red lining around the edge of the speedo and rev counter but I thought all versions of GTD and GTI had this???
I remember that being an addition at some point but can't remember when.
-
It looks cool BTW, I noticed it wasn't in the '09 GT TDI I drove as a courtesy car from Guy Salmon every time my range rover broke - which was a lot
-
Thats odd a range rover breaking down
Can anyone shed some light on the keyless entry, will this be standard or an option?
It looks like the posh red lining of the speedo and rev counters is on the GTD aswell as the GTI then, i thought the red markings were more of a trait/tradition of a GTI weird.

Dial photos, Keyless entry, and buttons on th wheel.
Dials, the earlier GTIs including my Fed2010 build one has white dials with no red.
-
Will the Keyless entry be a cost option then (more than likely) ? I've kind of built up a bit of false hope that mines going to come with it as standard being a dsg kinda guy and everything

Hi. This is my first post and I am looking for your help on Model Year changes for this incoming year i.e. MY2012. I ordered a GTD full loaded with DSG in October 2010. I was told it would be 16 weeks delivery time. I then read the changes on the forum from Snoopy for Week build 45 MY2011 and as a result I updated my order.
My dealer has informed me today that at the moment my car is scheduled for week build 17!. This will be 12 weeks past the expected delivery date. So, having waited 6 months should I expect further changes for MY2012 at week build 22 (as last year) and if so will any of these be significant? Another 4 weeks is nothing on this timescale.
-
We don't normally get to hear changes this early. Around April time is when VW inform the dealers.
Most changes are very minor.
-
Thank you. The dealer told me that there is only one change in the Model Year towards the end of each year. I have found they same to know less than the forums although the dealership staff are very helpful.
-
There is a model year change at around week 22. Then there is a slight tweek to the specs at around week 45. So he is sort of right but its a cheaky way of saying it. As there is one change per model year (week 45-46) but the model year changes at around week 22.
-
Thanks. Just to clarify, week 22 usually sees the main model changes. I assume this has the been the case for some years. I am paying 30K with all the extras and intend keeping the car forever! Happy to do this and thought I may have car by April however, if they are not going to build until week 17 having waited 6 months am thinking I should tell them to hold until the 22 build week. Obviously not knowing what may change does not help, but if you look back to previous changes and listen to others on the forum some changes are worth waiting for, all within reason of course. Can't wait indefinitely.
Thanks again.
