i have a 1997 mk3 gti 8v, it has a scorpion alarm fitted. the fob has one button on it and on the back code mpt1340. the fob still lights up but doesn't operate the doors or the alarm. i have fitted a new battery but nothing. any ideas

I had this problem with my scorpion alarm. It happened after I had disconnected the main car battery. I tracked down the main controller for the alarm then basically pulled the power connectors off then on again and it started working again. Might not work for you but worth a try perhaps.

where would i find that? and when i said new battery i meant in the fob not the car.

Yeah I knew you meant the fob battery. I only mentioned the car battery as thats how I managed to bugger my one up.
Find the horn in the engine bay and trace the wiring back. I would imagine the location depends on whoever fitted it. Somewhere in the dash would be a good place to look.
