I have a mk3 95 colour concept, it has been running lumpy for a while hesitant on 3000rpm and occasionaly firing on 3 cylinders? but i went out this morning and it won't start, the ignition seems fine because the engine turns over but not firing up. The petrol pump is not starting but no. 167 and no. 30 relay has been replaced. the fuel pump has been tested and is working fine, getting vagcom on it tomorrow and hoping this will help me, I am at wits end with this and i don't know what to do next?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
It's had a new dizzy, leads and plugs and all sparking fine?

Immobiliser problem?
-
Yes i was thinking of that but the imobalizer lets me turn the engine over, and there is petrol going through the engine but it's just not firing up?
-
the immobiliser would come in after a few seconds so i would discount that.
does it smell of fuel when it fails to start? (try a temp sensor)
-
My money is on the Hall senor. or coil.
-
I don't think it is the hall sensor as it doe'snt go into a limp mode, and i have good sparks coming from the plugs so i ruled out coil pack.
I have noticed that the oil light flashes when i turn the ignition on and then it stops after a while could this have something to do with my problem?
-
I tried the golf this morning on the of chance and it sounded like she wanted to start up, but only on 2 cylinders. Very strange because yesterday their was nothing just turning over? :undecided: :undecided:

coilpack!
-
If i get a spark from every plug could it still be the coil?
I have just read on hear that if your oil level is to low the engine won't start as a saftey issue?
how true is this does anybody know? :undecided:
-
Although I dont know for sure, I think you could be on to something here. I have had issues starting from cold, it just wont fire up and at the same time the oil light is flashing. It would make sense, not to have the engine run until oil is up to pressure.
-
if its a latyer one without an isv then id say crank sensor perhaps, but try coil and ecu/fuewl relays 1st tho. also if it later one without the coil disconnect the hall sensor and see if that helps
-
O.k will do got some new relays coming today just incase i was sold dodgey ones. The spark plugs have got a sparks so could i rule out the coil and crank sensor?
-
Just an update, car still won't start checked oil level, pressure and sensors all fine.
Can anyone tell me how to check the temp sensor? as i think the car is overfuelling, i have used nearly a quater of a tank of petrol just trying to get her started. And would i be correct in saying the temp sensor tells the ecu how much petrol should go through engine on startup.
I noticed the last couple of weeks that i have been using more petrol than i usually do, and the day before she decided that she would not start she was running like a pig on 3 cylinders.

try with it unplugged - should default to std-cold-engine-mix. Also check out this resistance table (stolen from a previous thread on here :-) )

Another update, car still won,t start changed both relays again unplugged the temp sensor because i thought it was overfueling but no joy. the car sounds like it wants to start because when turning it over it sounds like only 2 cylinders are firing and the revs pick up to about 600rpm but shuts down once i let the key go. Any suggestions please?

that sounds ignition related. Sure your plugs, leads and dizzy cap & arm are ok?

Yes it could be coil even if there is a spark. It could be a weak spark so it tries to start, and wants to go but because it's weak it won't fully come on.
I'd try the coil pack
