with the rx's
-
how?? :)
A good alloy specialist should be able to weld that up, have seen it done
-
Yeah you will be able to have that welded bk up, should cost you anything between £25-£50 to have it done. That does not look goo, wonder why this has happened, have yoou hit a curb or had a bang n that wheel????
-
How much was the fine?
-
no idear kia never bashed that wheel and rx's are defo not my style
-
looks like u should have changed that rubber about 10 year ago!! how bald

+1, i'm suprised theres no canvas showing

That tyre just looked downright dangerous. If you had a big accident with something like that on your car good luck with the insurance payout...
-
I'm guessing that the damaged wheel has gone egg shaped to split like that, a trait of linked to low profile tyres, hard suspension settings, and repeatedly driving over speed bumps, and potholes, although that wheel could easily have the crack welded successfully, its likely to crack at the next weakest link, due to severe metal fatigue already set in, next time you may not be as lucky...
If it was me, ultimately, I would scrap the lot, making sure they were put beyond use...
If you go the repair route, have all 4 crack tested, and make sure that the worst wheels go on the rears, where they will do a lot less work....

Personally, I would bin it. Not a fan of welding my life up!
-
Well when i use to work doing wheel refurbs and repairs i never welded wheels up just because i was worried it might come back if it gave way again. But then again i have seen really really good repairs and have lasted years and years so really its up to you.

I heard Ronal's are quite weak wheels. Must have hit a pothole or something to cause it!
+1 on what thom69 said.

Ronals are weak, Its a regular occurrence rims cracking on BMWs especially when fitted with run flats
Like I said, I would scrap the wheels if it was mine, simply not worth it...

cool well there is a good place near me that could fix em up but i duno yet see what they say if its not worth it then will allow it and run my rx's for now
-
and its only the inside edge on the tyer got loads of tread on the rest of it
-
when i had an alfa, i hit a pot hole, putting a huge dent in the rim and taking the tyre off the wheel, took it to a place who i dont think heated it, and cracked it whilst trying to put it straight, obviously they welded it, but it was never right and every sunday i would have to put more air in...
-
ah that sucks
-
Alfa's are massivly common for that to happen, there are loads driving around with bent wheels as the italians being the way they are wanted to save money on building these cars so used weak alloy
If you dont mind running th bbs's for a bit then do that as i think they look nice

this guy did the amazing repair to one of my porsche D90's, mine were pretty fooked looking after a run in with a truck (just 1) to the extent i bought another rim, but sent the damaged one to this guy, he checked the wheel, it wasnt buckled or anything luckily, one of the bonus of running a prorker rim he said was they are very strong.
anyhow this guy can work magic, worth a try - you can post your wheel to him, as i did but i drove over to collect, the rim i had done i told him not to repaint as i was sending all mine back to the place that did the paint work on them originally, so i saw the repair he had done bare, it was flawless, and now its re painted you just cannot tell, pics are in my dubrides thread here > http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=79957.520

Your wheel damage, is minor impact damage to the lip of the rim, ie cosmetic damage only... OPs wheel has suffered prolonged metal fatigue, which is an entirely different issue, and has far more serious safety implications...
Thom
-
Yeah true but did you not bother to read the description on work he can do on his home page ?
Worth a call IMO
-
Yes, I did bother to read...
Out of the other guys that I know that refurbish wheels, most are reluctant to repair tired fatigued wheels, for safety's sake.
The OP now has different info from all viewpoints, and it should now be up to him alone, to make an important safety call, repair, or scrap...
