Title: Anyone done this before?
Post by: simon20vt on 02 January 2011, 13:40
Hi guys, my mate has got a hole in his radiator. I've heard before that if you put an egg in the radiator, it will seal the hole up temporarily. I've never tried this, but wondered if any of you have or know someone that has, and will it work? He's tried putting some temporary radiator sealer in, but it doesn't seem to be working, i guess the hole is just to big for it to work. He needs to do an hours drive to get back from Nottingham without his engine overheating and blowing up. It's not a VW, its a P reg Fiat Punto, but i was just wondering if anyone had tried it, or heard of it and if it works.

Cheers

Never heard such a load of tripe in all my life Mate    I would not risk driving the car for that period of time. If he needs to get the car there then try the breakdown services

Hi I've heard of people doing this but even if it did work would probably knacker the radiator and god knows what else. I had an astra g sri with a leaky rad, and put kweld in it job done available from motorist discount if you have one.

One more suggestion tell him to do what I did sell the punto for scrap and buy a gti

Have you heard of the whipped cream fix. If you have a flat trye and no spare, you can usea whipped cream can to top it up.

Even better, tell them to go for air coolled, just get rid of the rad all together :/

pikey get you home rad fixes.

Kseal

get plires and bend back and crush the leacking tube.

mix up a big dollop of body filler and really work it into the leacking area.

egg white is an old old trick that dose sort of work,  i'll seal weeps and small holes splits in low pressue systems, but if K seal won't fix it egg white has no chance.

btw radweld is crap and rarely works

Egg white does work, but only with small leaks.
I've always found radweld to work fine.

rad weld is horrible stuff... I lost a heater matrix and a water pump to that sh!t

if you HAVE to use any pikey stuff like this then use WYNNS RADIATOR STOP LEAK

http://www.wynns.be/index.php/en/x/30?cId=29&bId=558&pId=55864 (http://www.wynns.be/index.php/en/x/30?cId=29&bId=558&pId=55864)

or simply just replace the radiator yourself?

Its all the same stuff.
Any coolant leak fix is supposed to be used ONCE.
The problem becomes when people keep putting it in(or previous owners have), that's when the problems start.
