Fair enough.
I remember one looking reasonable and those two look horrible cause the grills straight and the bumper isn't.
Do remember one looking alright tho.
-
I am drunk, but I do have the pot noodle horn for this right now !
Happy new year lol
-
I know its a little different but that looks pants why not just sell the VR buy a mk2
-
I've got a plan in my head, something the pics I have found are missing a part that could make it look fab!!
May be wrong, I think they look good. So why not??
Plus i love my mk3, just wanna play :D
-
Thats fair play and at least its still a mk3  ill keep an eye out if you go ahead and do it be intresting mod anyway and different
-
That's the spirit mate!
I keep circling back to this and I really fancy it!
Hardly a big job to change back if i don't like it!
Gonna be good!
-
All the photos knocking about are photoshopped, but one or two people actually tried and posted on vortex about it. One of them gave up because it involved a lot of messing about and cutting and making new parts. Another actually did it but I think it either broke or he removed it quickly. I don't have the pictures and the thread it was in was quickly shut down because of a flame war. It looked, odd. It was seriously marmite which is what caused the flame war
-
Lol
I've got 3 pics, but that downunder thread has gone as that had a few more!
Hang on, I'll post em up....

There were a few others too
I like it!!
-
Ah i remember these. I think the black one is shopped due to the curves of the grille at at each end where the list are. The other 2 look genuine. Not sure on it though as an overall look but i think i prefer it over a vento front.
-
The purple and the red are photoshopped too I'm afraid. I think the genuine photos were of a blue mk3.
-
The black and red ones are sexy as!!
-
The question remains, why would you want to make a mk3 look like a mk2.
-
I think it looks great!!
-
The answer as before is why make one look like a vento, or a mk4??
For me the lights and grill have always been a downside on the mk3 whichever way ya look at it!
Standard are crap looking, mk4s at just minging, mk2s look odd, quad are boring and expensive!
But at least this gives a talking point at a show, gives people something to argue over :D
-
The red one looks bad with that bumper.
-
I did some research.
Here's an idea, get some ABT or Hella dual rounds and modify them. I happened across these pictures:
This is the blue car I thought did the mk2 conversion but he actually cut ABT rounds in half, removed the second light and reattached the curved end to the single light half:
Another guy did the same:
Dual rounds with the inner light removed for cold air feeds, VW racing did this with some mk3s before:
And this is doing it wrong, mk2 quads on a Jetta. This one is apparently genuine:

This guy put in single rounds and no grille but from his build thread I think he said they were rounds from an E30:

Here's another option, Hella single rounds. Pretty damn rare because they were ugly even in the 90s, but here are some shots from a mk3 rally car:

Hope that helps mate
-
Very helpful mate thank you!!
Certainly gives a few more options, certainly think the mk2 front is still the best, but this is certainly great advice!!
How did ya manage to get all this, i failed miserably!! Lol
-
I went searching for ABT single rounds since I knew of them already and then for ABT dual rounds since I heard of people removing one light for an air feed, giving a single round look. I just sort of happened across the rest in the process or from info in other threads.
-
Top work mate!!
Ya don't see these things much at all!!!
-
No worries man, hope it helps out!
-
Rally cars one looks good..
-
The first blue one with the cut into singles ABTs looks like it's got the front from the dodgy frog eyed scooby!
-

Turning ya Wayne :D
Not really, but don't think I have ever seen a Golf done as a old school hot rod before.
-
Lol
Not my cup of tea to be fair, bet it gets a few looks :D
-
Seen that before, love the paint and wheels on that.
If you're looking for more hot rod golfs........

that looks friggin rediculous!
-
Here's a video of another mk3 rally car with the single round headlights:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uxB7UO5ReyA
-
Nice bit of rally footage but im still undecided on those headlights, i also noticed the fitment of m3 style / white & clear rear light clusters. were the team sponsored by Halfords or something?
-
To be fair the headlights were available at dealerships form Hella, so hardly Halfords spec. I'd argue the same about the rear lights, sooo many mk3s have clear/red rears, they're not exactly lexus specials.
-
''help and sarcasm since '02''
