Excuse the noob question but why wont the light come on in my boot when I open it? All the other interior lights in the car work without a problem.
Thanks in advance.

Switch? Bulb in it?
-
Yeah, bulb in it. Cant find a switch that turns it on and off though (if there is one)
-
Did it previously work?
Maybe its not seated properly?
I can't remember now if it has a switch.

Not sure if it's worked before as I've only had it for a week

IIRC the switch is in the latch for the hatch.

Sorry mate, what latch for what hatch :embarassed:

LOL.
I was going to say this but felt it was too poetic .
My switch got stuck once for some unknown reason. So I sprayed some contact cleaner all around and it has worked a treat since then.

The latch he's referring to is the locking latch on the bottom of the tailgate that keeps the tailgate locked.

When you open the boot lid. (hatch) theres a triangle bit that is attached to said hatch door. That tall people bump there heads on  inbetween the bit that looks like a claw is a push button that switches the light on and off. This button is pushed in when the catch clicks shut.

Ah, great. I'll give that a go.

Ok tried the suggestion but still no good. Do you think that the Multipoint check that is done when you buy a used car should jaw picked this up?
Cheers,

Try removing the light unit and check the plugs in right and the bulbs in correctly. Try wiggling the wires into the plug as it maybe a bad connection. If you have a multimeter you could measure the voltage at the connector and bulb.
If its not just the bulb it should be covered under your warrenty.

Thanks for the advice, I'm an office boy with no idea on anything about cars! I've tried to remove the light cover, it slides to the right but does not come off what am I doing wrong?

Its on a spring clip. IIRC there s little slot in the side you can insert a screw driver into to help pull it out. If your worried about breaking it just leave it.
You could just pop into your local VW dealer and ask them to have a quick look. Most are open this time of year just people don't think they are.

Sorted! Took the light off with screw driver as suggested and the connecting block had come away from the bulb.
Thanks all
