Title: Key coding/immobiliser!
Post by: Kt on 30 December 2010, 20:52
Hello everyone im kate. Ive had a look through the archives and ive found bits and bobs about key coding but im still not 100% clear on what to do. Ive got s plate 1.8 golf and ive always just had one key but my darling parrot thought he would dissect the car key! Now ive got an idea that its a couple hundred to get new key and coded from vw or others have said to buy key off ebay and then get it cut and then do something with the key code but what about the immobiliser on the car?! Can anyone give me any advice?  Sorry if this topic has been bought up before but i went right back to 2006 in the archive but am still confused! Im a woman, it doesnt take much!

Hi Kate.
What part of the key fob is damaged? My Passat key fob is the same as the one in picture 3 of the other thread. The metal key blade broke, so I ordered this from ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150508113947&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT#ht_1204wt_932
The top part of my fob ( the part with the blade) was very difficult to take apart, but I was able to leave the immobiliser chip in place and put the new blade, which had been cut at a local locksmith, into the fob. The whole process was a bit fiddly but at about £27 in total, a lot cheaper than a replacement from the dealers.
Hope this helps.
