Title: misfire when in traffic

Hi guys,

Over the last week or so my 1990 8v gti Pb digifant has started to misfire and sometimes cut out when sitting in traffic. Car drives 100% on motorways no missing no lack of power only when I come into traffic and sitting at idle for a while engine starts to develop a misfire and cuts out restarts straight away give it a bit of acceleration and it splutters and then clears itself of the misfire,  happens only when engine is warm.
The only thing I have noticed when it starts to misfire if I pull the bonnet and leave it up it won’t happen but it I leave it closed it will start to misfire from this I would think its heat related thinking it could be possibly the coil heating up

Was just wondering if anyone has came across this before

Hi
I think its because you put your hand to the boot lever area.
Make sure all the relays, especially the fuel pump relay, are seated tightly.

have checked fuel system even done fuel pressure test all with in spec have also crosed over relay and driven stilll same fault happens

what i mean about bonnet open is if i pull in to the side open bonnet in the air, after about 2 mins car will run fine again only when i close it again with out moving misfire happens hagain with in five minutes

Thats really odd mate. I wish i could give you advice but i only have sympathy on this one  :undecided:
I can only really relate misfires to ignition (sparks, coil, leads) and fuel (filter, injectors, pump).
But then you knew that already im sure!
