Title: Ah! What on heck is it?? Car still pulling to the left after all new parts

Hi,

My Golf was pulling to the left occasionally and felt a little bit unpredictable even after having the tracking and cambre set up at Elite's so I've just fitted this week:

Full front polybush kit (ARB + eye bits, front and rear wishbone bushes)
New ball joints
New tie rods/track rods

I have had the tracking re-done, and although it doesn't feel unpredictable anymore it still pulls to the left!!!

What could it be? Surely I've changed everything now?

The mechanic who did the tracking did mention that he thought one side of the front of the car was slightly lower than the other (when fitting th tracking tool), could one of the springs in the shocks be missalinged?

The handling itself now is amazing, just wan't to fix the pulling.

Really need advice on this one - SO frustrating!

The -ve camber on the Golf makes it really sensitive to road camber, have you tried driving in the middle/other side of the road to see if it still pulls left?

What's the wear on your tyres like - is it even?

Yeah, even tread wear.

I'll give it a try driving over different angles in the road...

Would worn top mounts play a part or would worn ones just be noisy?

Depends on how worn they are, movement will affect camber, which in turn will effect toe.

What do you mean matey? Worn tyres? They've got loads of life left in them and the wear is even across the tread.

Just been out and it definately pulls slightly to the left, even on the oposite side of the road

If I hold the steering wheel central it drives straight.

Worn top mounts?
Misaligned springs in shocks?
Worn wheel bearings?

I can't think of any other moveing parts that I haven't changed?! :sad:

ben was talking about top mounts on his above post.. they do affect quite a bit if they are f**ked..

Hi mate, i dunno if youve uprated your suspension or not?
But oddly when i fitted a weitec kit to the mk4 i had, the car decided to pull left. I had it tracked but it didnt make a difference. The steering just never quite felt central, yet when i fitted my original suspension back on it was back to normal. Odd as it was. Have you got original suspension?

Hi, yes I fitted a 2nd had set of Koni adjustables not long after buying the car. I wonder if that's it then.

I did check the tyre presure yesterday and one side was down just over a PSI from the other side so that helped. Still there slightly though.

I might buy new top mounts and see if that helps.

Its odd, even though mine was a brand new quality kit, it seems to throw it off a bit slightly.
Just a note, i installed new top mounts (from VW) with the kit and still had the problem. Hope yours gets sorted though!

Switch the wheels front to back and see if it helps.

had a brand new set of tyres fitted on a lexus a few years ago and it pulled to the left, had the

tracking set caster angels checked thrust angles reset and it still pulled;  :huh:

ended up with a different set of tyres and it was dead ahead no probs  :grin:

turned out the tyres were faulty so try another set it should cure the issue  :cool:

Definitely swap the tyres.  Have you done the top-mounts?  Has the car ever had any accident damage repaired?

Ok, I'll switch the tyres front to back to see what that does - nice idea thanks.

No haven't done the top mounts, according to the previous owner they were new not that long ago so they might be ok (if they were replaced that is).

Yes it did have a scuff of the front wing but as far as I can see from the history documents and the repair job it was minor. If it's pulling because of that, would that mean the chassis is bent??!  :shocked:

Hi

My car was pulling to the left quite a lot. I set the camber yesterday (trackrite camber gauge from ebay) and it has helped greatly. It does have a tyre problem though so I will not know the full outcome till later this week when I get some different ones.

Edit, have switched the left hand tyres and it now tracks straight and goes with the camber both ways. It is a much nicer car to drive now.

Just giong back through some old posts to update.

It was my tires in the end, switched them over and it pulled right. There's no obvious uneven wear on any of the tyres which is strange, but really does pull for some strange reason.

Try swapping your wheels and tyres around from front to back, keep them to the same side though so as not to run the tyres backwards
