Title: mk3 tweeters, what is this mess??

1996 mk3 16v.

i looked at my speakers the other day and the dash tweeters look weird. they are alpine ones but have this resistor thing inside the plastic ring that clips into the hole, the ring has what looks like metal teminals on the top, is this original?

alpine were not original fit
the resistor is there to act as a very basic high pass filter
