Dealer has a GTD with 600 miles on the clock. They are offering ~7% off list. Seems a bit steep, seeing they offered the same on a factory order!
-
£600?
-
7% is a big chunk off there margin on a new car.
It depends on the spec, colour and how much they want rid of it.
Factory orders are taking a long time to come through so theres always someone out there will not wait.
The 7% on a factory order was im guessing from there buisness fleet side rather than the salesroom public customer side?
-
I got the 7% off a new car from sales. Took a lot of work, mind you. Fixing in 2010 prices and 17.5% VAT for a May 2011 car.
Car is a GTD, carbon grey, uprated radio (not sat-nav), winter pack and adjustable suspension. Oh yes, and without 20 weeks of waiting!
-
You did well as the basic margin is 8% anymore is made up with them hitting targets and sales schemes.
-
So, if 7% is good for a new car, how much "off list" for a nearly new one?
-
It depends how they bought it. They pay less for showroom/demo models than they do cancelled/customer models. I would be suprised if they sell it at much of a loss. Steve30 bought one similar to what your looking at ie ex showroom. Maybe a search to see what he got off % wise. They prob also want to shift it before the end of the month which you could use to your advantage.

Good spec and colour

They're not budging! One last throw of the dice ...
-
Coz they know they'll sell it at that price fairly easily
-
branchespark: How much in £ have they discounted, if you don't mind me asking.
-
@am1w £1,500
-
@am1w £1,500
That is pretty good, IMO.
Thanks for the reply.
-
No movement on price. Now comes down to the waiting time and lack of spec. Head and heart are arguing again!
-
Forgive me for asking again as I'm being lazy. :embarassed:
So what have you ordered exactly spec-wise as you say it is a poverty spec, please?
-
Have you tried a broker?
Had a quick look online and the cheapest i can find is £21,787 new, how much is the dealer asking for?

Im not sure anymore whether he wants to buy the 600 mile sample at the dealers or order a new one.
He is in a bit of a quandry.
-
7% is a decient discount imo for a car thats available now but if they have offered you that off a new one i would say be cheaky and make them an offer on the showroom one if you want it.
I think iirc steve30 got 10% off his showroom model GTD but his was totally fully loaded and white so harder for them to shift to an average customer, it was also on the price rise time too. So you could try for 10% off if your cheaky or get them to through in some dealer fit options and GAP to sweaten the deal. It all depends on what the car cost them really and how much they want rid of it and by when, also how cheaky you want to be.

GTD MY2011 (LED rear lights, etc.), 5dr, Manual, Carbon Grey, RCD510, Cruise Control, Active Chassis, Parking & Camera, Winter Pack.
@sundaydriver: I went to that website and the above spec comes in at £24,921.76.
The more I think about it, the better the deal! GTD (as with GTI) has great residual value, not that I plan on selling it for 9 years or so!
-
What ever you go for you wont be dissapointed!

Go for the one with the shortest wait-time as long as it meets your requirements. Over a nine year period of ownership, price differences will be miniscule.
All the best, and looking forward to the pictures.
-
Done. £25,000.
-
Welcome to the family
When you getting her?
-
CONGRATULATIONS.
Welcome to the fold. Doc and Snoops will protect you from evil moi!
So pleased for you. You did well. When? Pictures soon?
Big

When I have sorted cash flow. Deposit down and car will now not be driven any more. Hopefully within a few weeks. Then will get Darren to sort out the RNS510 (has RCD510 - resale value?) and them trimstar in Colchester to put in the leather.
I think black leather, but suggestions welcome!

Congratulations again. Great car. Great spec.
Glad you went with my recommendation of Trimstar. You won't be disappointed.
RCD510 resale value, £300-£350.
As for the leather, I would look at another colour other than black. Too much black with a dark car. Trimstar have some very valid suggestions. I would go for lighter leather or a combination of two colours. I'll have a look now at the colours and get back in a few moments.
I am really happy and excited for you.

I've seen the RCD510 go on ebay for around £250 but maybe ask Darren if he knows someone who's looking for one when he sorts you a RNS510 out.

Their colour swatches are not very representative of the 'real' colours.
I rather like a deep dark red or deep dark red with black bolsters as in their pictures. But that's my taste.
I just would not go for common and safe black if I were you. You have the opportunity to be creative and different, so grab it!
How exciting.
-
Will try and be creative, for sure!
Now got to put the MY02 GT TDI on eBay. Might need a bit of a clean!!
-
Did you deal with Paul Mitchell, MD Trimstar?
I dealt with him on 24/3/2010 when I was considering a leather re-trim.
Very helpful, reliable, trustworthy.
Mention me (Asker) and say hi!
PS: I was going for Tan leather for my Red car.

How about like this mk5

Paul at TrimStar, yes. Love the tan colour! Not sure how child / dog friendly a light colour is .....
-
If I was to take advantage of the door panels being taken off, is it worth upgrading the speakers? I did try the sound system in the car earlier with only comment being that they lacked (only slightly) good base.
Any suggestions?
-
I don't know Snoops's feelings are about this, but I would change the loudspeakers especially the treble unit, get a slave amp and a sub-woofer. Might as well, as the door panels will have to come off.
Specific recommendations for amps and L/S units, I'll leave to Snoops.
-
Depends on budget.
I do like the Alpine PDX and JL HD amps for there size, number of channels and power. That they also fit in the gap were the dynaudio amp fits under the front passenger seat is a bonus.
Door speakers is all down to budget but imo you have to factor in some sound damping(my fav is dynamat) and speaker mounting (MDF/Birch ply/Steel) into the price. I do like the speaker make focal but they take along time to break in and can be too detailed for some. I would reccomend a small 8" or 10" subwoofer in the left hand side boot location to help produce the lowend bass. If your good at DIY theers a good stealth box thread in the audio section stickys on how to make the subbox.
