Title: Diesel Exhausts
Post by: Jayman79 on 28 December 2010, 20:55
Hi Peeps,

Stupid question maybe, but whenever you think of big exhausts, I can only ever remember them on petrol as in my youth, all performance cars were petrol!  Can you get cleaner results on desels or is it a case of the chocolate teapot?  My car been re-mapped and a bit more according to my mechanic, nothing specific in terms of what so its all a bit vague really.  It spins when you floor it, throws you back when it grips so its fast, and it is the fastest car i drove other than robbie keanes old overfinch range rover and even then not by much really:-)  What impact would a dumpvalve have also on a diesel.  Really want that exagerated whooosssh sound :-)

Exhausts do exist and do work. Go for either a custom made one from the likes of powerflow or Miltek. I have the non res Miltek and love it. Not boomy and quite when u want it to be.

No do not put a dump valve on a derv. They have no TB so do not create a vacuum thus no need for one.

That explains the dump valve a little more.

I think thats what i got an uprated pipe as the AA guy was a bit confused as to the fitting when i called them off when it blew off!!!  All pipes now proper secured with clamps real clamps and not them  horse shoe shaped pieces of crap!!!   So mine does sound whoooshy probably more than normal as i dont hear any other diesel like mine?

Sounds a bit like a leak to me.

Not like a leak as certainly no power lacking?  More like a dump valve release sound, thats why it sounds like a dump valve.  I do however have an ongoing issue with regards to a vibrate at 1000rpm-1300rpm and really noticable.  Coming from below the air filter.  Remvoveed and replace it and the sound minimzed for a while although still there slightly :-(  Even my mate thought it was bearings and he said just let it develop but still puzzles me now ?
