Now this is a very interesting question and has a very simple answer as far as I am concerned.

The cars and members in the other sections are of no real interest to me.

The guys and gals in this section provide me with all the information and support I need. They are extremely knowledgeable, are not overtly arrogant and don't have an axe to grind. I feel safe in the knowledge that they have my best interests at heart. They are also very kind and great fun.

Bit rude Am1w

A cut above the rest? Have I read that wrong or are you labelling all the other owners on the site inferior to mk6 owners?

I just think you lot stay mostly in here as you discuss issues more based around new car ownership such as finance, deals, options and lead times which don't really apply to the rest of us. Was the same with MK5 , will be the same with MK7!

I don't because I am a bit lazy probably and find it hard enough to keep pace with the members in this section. Call me old fashioned.

Steve, you are too kind. I don't consider myself that highly and have learnt so much from you guys. I am still a bit of a novice (with too many posts, most of them rubbish probably) and once I have found my feet, will venture slowly into other sections. I will probably get shouted down as they are not used to me and my many peccadilloes as you guys are, so I am a bit wary at present.

Are there other sections?! ;)

On a serious note, and being a noob to this forum, I have browsed about. Thing is, if my question relates to a Mk6, then this really is the best place. You guys seem to be about all the time and it helps maintain sanity.

Maybe I should post in the Mk4 section to keep my GT TDI from taking revenge ....

Wow, now I realise why I don't come into this section very much!

Personally I find this the most boring section of the entire site, it's just a big willy waving contest over 'storage packs' and 'luggage nets', not to mention the tedious petrol vs diesel and which colour is better arguments.

I spend around 40% of my time in the MK6 section and the rest mooching around the other parts of the forum, There's some great stuff in the other sections no matter what your creed, car or religion.

Go mk6'ers and never look back :-)

Well I joined to use the Mk3 section, long before my Mk6 came along.
I still use the Mk3 section, and have a mooch at the General, Off-topic and Detailing sections...and sometimes the Mk5 section.
The rest I rarely go into because I have no direct interest...which seems pretty logical to me, and something i'm struggling to find is a problem for people.

Being a relative newbie to the forum, I tend to only read the MK6 pages as they have info which is relavant to the car I drive. A lot of the guys on these forum pages appear to have owned earlier models, so is makes sense that you would follow the relevant forum section, whilst also be interested in visiting the later edition forums.

I don't think us MK6'ers are being elitist in any way :smug:. If a MK6 topics thread's back to issues pick up on the MK5, then I would follow that thread back and read it.

It seems pretty much common sense to me, then perhaps that's what makes me a MK6 owner!

My area of knowledge is the MK6 simply because I own one so I tend to hang out here.

I help where I can and I'm pleased to say that I get help too from the other MK6 owners. I think they call it 'carma'. *reaches for coat*

On the Chat Off Topic forum and specifically on the 'Winter Tyre' thread, I was admonished nay chastised en masse by a number of members on my purchase of winter tyres and wheels.

This is the response I provided:

'I have never laughed so much during and after this thread. You guys sound like a bunch of hysterical, chattering, frustrated housewives with a serious 'knickers in a twist' syndrome.

Fortunately, for me, £1440 is not a great deal of money. I am having fun and that's what it is all about.

The Monza Shadows cost nearly £500 each, and from what I know, are pretty impossible to fix when kerbed. As I don't like driving a car with kerbed or damaged rims and as this can be a greater possibility in harsh winter conditions, I bought a set of four VMR 710s for the princely sum of £410, delivered. I will use these with my outrageously expensive Michelin PA3 'W' rated winter tyres.

The Monza Shadows will be shod, as per my signature, with new summer wear come March. More fabulous, delightful expense. You should be pleased that I spend my money and contribute in some small way to help the pathetic economic state of our country.

So, contrary to what you all think and feel, I am undoubtedly a 'do gooder' and you should be celebrating this and attempt to desist from admonishing me for my generosity.

Happy and Prosperous New Year to all of you kind, considerate and thoughtful human beings'.

The tyres will be fitted in the UK, though not sourced through a UK company. The UK has to be grateful for small mercies. I tried for 3 months to get them here. Got fed-up with the ineffeciencies and the unacceptable wait. Eventually, the French company pneus, sourced them from Germany.

p3eps had to do the same.

Pity I could not spend all of the money here.

in all seriousness i don't feel welcomed in other forums. it remains the only common thing bonding us all together is the make and model of our motor cars and even then there is such variation within the model, eg manual/DSG etc, so in reality even amongst us we drive quite different machines

and then you got members of other forums who think the mk6 owners are probably a bunch of stuck up rich <Un+5 who think they are better than anybody else. that's partly why i avoid those other forums.

even now i feel very subordinate as most other members here seem to be hardcore enthusiasts to me so i avoid posting up silly stuff of a sarcastic nature. well sometimes. i'm happy to share my experiences, notably my recent issue regarding the driver's door that stayed shut, i think it's good to share this stuff as it relates to everybody.

on the whole though generally it's a nice atmosphere here, most guys (and gals) seem very helpful and it's nice to have such an enthusiastic community. it might even be nice to come meet some of you one day.

Mrs Doc is fine with be being on here, it's the wearing black fishnets, shiny black leather boots, crumpled black leather jacket, black cocked SS peak cap and a long black whip, whilst prancing around in delight that's got her a little confused.

I've assured her it will only last for about 74 months
