How most of us have modded and retro'd our cars, we've got our special editions in the here and now!

There will probably be an Ed40 and Ed50. Unfortunately, for the latter I might be dead!

Oh right, thats a shame.  Ive currently got a Mk5 Golf Gti (standard) and was just thinking about what to get next.  Id love an ED30, but ive still got 23 months left on my lease!  Hoped there might be a special edition of the Mk6 when the time comes for me to trade up.

a lot can happen in 23 months, the mk7 is out in 2012.  So far in the looks department the mk7 doesn't inspire me so it may be onto another brand for me by then.

Fair point gizzywizzy, the Mk7 looks disgusting!  Im not a huge fan of the Mk6 to be fair.  I was also considering the Scirocco, but its just not a Golf!  Well ill hope for an ED35 and if not ill just get an ED30, cheers Snoopy.

It was 2009 that the last Mk5 was made right?

That seems very soon for the MK7. Are they only going to make the MK6 for 4 years... 2009-2012?

According to wikipedia, the MK5 was made from 2003-2009. So it was out for 7 years. That would mean a release date of more like 2015 for the MK7.

I think its fair to say they will do an Edition 35 model, they have done one for most of the 5 year anniversary's so wouldn't think this would be any different, and by then the mk6 will be getting towards the end of its life, so would boost sales with a special edition, and we all know VW like special editions.

Speculation.....

Well what would we all like to see within reason (remember there is a 4wd R model)

I'd say,

235bhp engine output  :smug:
Half leather seats
Dark R Xenons as standard (I'm sure they won't though)
Dark R rear lights
R side skirts
19" BBS rims (will more than likely be 18's)
Special numbered plaque (that everyone will get 2 years later )

While we are speculating about the possibilities of an Ed 35 here is what I would like:

Power of around 250-60 hp.(If you remember then all they did to the mk5 was effectively upgrade from a ko3 to a ko4 turbo. I'm pretty sure that by doing the same to a mk6 we would see that figure quite nicely. It would also bring the special edition just under the R model in the same way that the Ed30 was just under the R32)

Half Leather seats (love these in the Ed30s)

Fancy Lights (but no more Audi style lights. Would be nice if VW could come up with their own look).

New wheels (perhaps a reinterpretation of the Monza's)

But price wise I reckon it could be into the 30 grand. Although it would be a nice car I'm just not sure that's the type of money I want to spend on a Golf.

oh no they didn't
But the good news unlike the mk5 engine the EA888 in the mk6 was developed according to the documents of its development about the block etc to be capable of ~270bhp in production forum with the usual VW tolerances ontop.

I think theres a large thread on here somewere were me and one of the mk5 guys basically went through the parts disc listed the differences and worked out what had changed and what was shared with what. We also went through all the VW technical documents and press releases at the time.

As a basic guide this lists the main differences of the ed30/GTI engine at the bottom.

Some interesting news on the German forums.

Seems this car is slated for Calender week 22 launch (Not sure if thats same time as Worthersee?) and that deliveries in Germany will be June / July.

As expected rumoured to be 235ps.

One of the guys states he has been working on the new seats and they are leather with GTi honeycome pattern and red stiching.

No Asker, the 35 will have a K04 turbo (or equivalent) and will map the same as an ED30 or R (so about 300ish BHP stage 1). Pretty impressive and should torque steer beautifully!
