What is the difference between these?
What are the latest versions and what do they work with?
I'm looking to buy one but not sure what to go for, cheers!!
-
It all depends on what you want to do with it?
i.e. job (s) car (s)
-
That was the point of asking the question.
What do they both do? what are they compatible with?
-
They change the mileage on Vag cars.
The vehicles covered depend on if your buying original or snides mate.
Hence what do you *expect* or want them to do?
-
I want one for reading immobiliser codes.
I'm not intending to change mileages.
The newest car i have is a 2007.
From what i understand VAG commander is the better version, as it supports CANBUS.
Is this correct?
-
Yes. VAG commander is cambus compatible and the better of the two units - by a longshot.
-
Thankyou
Does it work on early cars as well, mid 90's cars for example?
-
Some of them, but not many coverage is more 2000 up.
-
Cheers Doc.
So if i want a cable to do mid to late 90's cars, do i need to go for VAG-tacho instead?
-
Sorry dude, I don't know
-
Cheers anyway Doc
-
Well i've bought commander 5.1, so we will see if it works...
-
vag-tacho will only cost 20 or so from ebay so you can get a feel of it, if you're local you can have a play with my cable if you like
edit: well that sounded wrong! :embarassed:
edit2: I thought vag-tacho could also work on can-bus cars? from what i understand the ecu and clocks still use the old-style vag-com comms link, just all the fancy-pants extras which use can-bus?
-
Thanks Jon.
Its a bit late, i've had this thread up for days, where have you been?
I've bought the commander now, it seems to run alot more than tacho. It was only 25 quid from ebay.
I'd love to come and play with your cable, just don't tell the wife

I took some time off over christmas
