ive had an email from HIC to send back a security decleration in my renewal for car saying its got a thatcham approved alarm. my car is fitted with an alarm and immobiliser but not thatcham approved one as it was fitted by a previous owner and dont really wanna fit a new one a) cant afford to get one fitted atm and b) i wont be keepin the car for to long this yr wat wud i do about this without fitting a new alarm

i believe thatcham approved alarms comes with certificates of fitting and testing ??

thing is, in my opinion, if you know how to wire up an alarm system properly, it can be just as good, in my show car, its all microscan, alarm, immob, internal and perimiter sensors, wired up in a 6 point system

probably cost the same as a thatcham as well but without the certifitcate...  :embarassed:

thats wats in mine, all its got is internal, bonnet switch and immobiliser and shock sensor

i really rate microscan, but its a shame it doesnt meet thatcham standards, but if it did, the price of it would propbably rise alot

so for the money, you might as well buy a toad or clifford and get it certified, as insurance companies recognise these

problem is i cant afford till i get paid next and thats the day the form need to be sent back on the 14th jan

Hi Dan,

There are 2 sections on the security declaration form you have been sent. Section 1 needs to be signed if you have declared you have a Thatcham security device fitted. As you do not have a thatcham security device, you only need to fill in section 2 which is for other after market security devices.
