Was cruising along on icy roads tonight, when a 4x4 stopped in front of me to turn off the road. I couldn't stop in time and slowly crunched into the back of it. No damage to him, but his trailer hitch put a hole in my lower honeycomb grill. Also, the red strip around the upper grill is damaged, along with the bumper section between the upper and lower grills. So basilcally, the whole plastic grill/licence plate assembly needs to be replaced.
So, can anybody tell me how much is this likely to cost?
Thanks for any help, and Merry Christmas!

Sounds like the perfect excuse to get yourself a carbon fibre upgrade - http://www.carbonspeed.co.uk/product_cs.vw.04.asp

Sorry for your loss, that carbon looks a beast though

should have bought my carbon badge of me Al before the car went!
edit: @ OP depends on the damage, is the bumper damaged at all? if not its just the grilles, they can bothe be removed reasonably easily, price wise 2 - 300 sheets i dare say but not 100% on that as time has moved on since i had my 5!

Thanks for the info guys. My VW garage is open again today, so I might be able to get in there before they close and find out what it's gonna cost me.
What needs to be replaced are the two honeycomb grilles (top and bottom), and also the piece in between (the carbon fibre bit in AlanD's post). Also, the red stripe has damage.
Are we really talking about £200-300 for just the grilles? So add in the bit in between, and we must be up to at least £500 - which is more like €600 in my money (I'm in Dublin). That's a whole lot if so!
Any chance I could fit the parts myself? It'd want to be fairly easy, as I have NO experience with that stuff. Would it even make it much cheaper?
BTW, the carbon fibre and the black badge are freakin' awesome.

I can't see how it would be very difficult to fit those bits to be honest, weigh up the cost just for the parts and see what they want to fit them if they are asking too much I would just do it myself.

Well, I got the quote from my VW garage. €465 total. That breaks down as Parts: €208, Paint & sundries: €148, Labour: €109. I think I'm just going to leave it for the moment, and learn to live with the "battle damage".
