Title: fuel injectors
Post by: theclash on 21 December 2010, 20:42
got a fuel leak looks like its pooling between the 2 middle injectors. how many seals are there on each injector and how hard of a job is it to pull them out/put them back again...never done injectors before so not sure whats involved, or could it be coming from somewhere else

assuming its a digi, there are 2 seals per injector. rail is held onto head with allen bolts, then injectors are held into the inserts by friction alone.  a leak like you describe could be down to the fuel rail itself, so if it was me i would buy a spare rail and rebuild that, then swap it over.

actually I would start by checking both the fuel lines to the rail, make sure they aren't perished. usually they crack at the ends, if so chop around 5-10mm off and refit with new fuel clips. if lines look really bad then replace, can be tricky to get the routing right, one of them is bent into an S shape. I managed with tweaking and strategically placed clips. make sure they cant rub on anything though!

yes its a digi. are the allen bolts holding the fuel rail awkward to get at/out... what else do i need to take off to get to it..is it a job i can tackle myself or is it a job for a garage.

It's really not a tough job.  You should be able to do it yourself if you're reasonably competent.
