Title: Resonator... to remove or not to remove?
Post by: savvasa on 21 December 2010, 15:32
Evening all...

What's the general consensus on this. I don't want to go down the after market exhaust route, mainly because I want to keep the car as stock as possible, however, I would love it sound a bit more beefy... from what I've read this can be achieved by removing the resonator.

Opinions, ideas, comments, all welcome.

Cheers again,

Sav

.........when you way them up,around 385.00 pounds compared to an orginal system which is only mild steel & over 300.00 the Milltek is good value being stainless steel.
No way are they too loud & i thought you wanted a bit more noise anyway?.

Search on youtube for 'mk5 gti resonator delete' and you will find a lot of sound clips. It was a pretty popular mod in America for a while. It can be very loud with the resonator deleted. That said, others seem ok with it so I guess it depends on what you consider loud. As Gene Hunt said, it's worth keeping the Milltek system in mind. It will be louder on acceleration but nearly as quiet as stock on normal driving.

Milltek are know for the quality of their exhaust and real nice crisp sound... they make quality exhaust's not chav mobile sound like you going a million miles an hour when your really just setting off.. they are very subtle in there noise and when pressed on give a real nice throaty noise.. this is proberly your best option as just chopping out sections of the oem exhaust might in some way hamper the car where as milltek have spent a lot of time developing there’s to make the most of it...

Do you have any sound or video clips of your car without the 2nd box? I'd like to see how it sounds as I can't justify a Milltek on a 1.4

Grow a beard.  This will give you the same effect as removing the rear muffler.
People will think you are a plonker.

PS I have a beard.
