Title: PERFORMANCE
Post by: 4 motion on 15 February 2005, 21:19
Today i was involved in a bit of a performance test against a mk5 Golf diesel and
couldn't believe how much i had to thrash my car (golf v6 4 motion) to loose the bloody thing.
How can a standard oil burner be that quick ? I was gutted!
I'm seriously looking at taking the slug  to a tuners to check out the lack of so called pace!
Has anybody out there been shafted by the oil burners performance ?

The new top of the range VW oil burners can have 190 ponies as standard, and one hell of  a lot of torque i should imagine!

I have got a brand new but real fun  combined harvester comes to mind

i got to admit the new diesels are dreadfully rapid. even my fathers diesel 75 has a strange effortless acceleration. although my 827 was not happy in milan (due to a massive cooling problem) - i had to wring its neck to beat my mates diesel golf.

ive raced a mk4 TDi along a dual carrageway the other month, it was blowing alot of smoke as he thrashed it, every time i got infront we both had to slow down for the speed cameras, then he'll get infront, it was quite funny actually.

Yes its a sad fact that diesels nowadays are very fast. I had a bit of trouble getting away from a ford mondeo tdci the other month, i was gutted.
The golf 150 gttdi can be chipped anywhere up to 220bhp with all that torque. Youve got no chance, especially if they are 4wd. But i agree with dizzie they still sound poo, although they are getting quieter plus with a turbo whistle can sound pretty nice so yes im depressed now and will stop thinking about it.

I dont like diesels, just because they sound awful, and they only rev up to around 5k, but i have to admit the torque they have is something else.

I have a TDI Chipped to 220bhp 1/4 mile at york 15.34 et terminal of 91.4 mph, not to bad when you consider an average of 44mpg, just about to replace it test drove a MK5 gti and gt tdi back to back on the same route at similar speeds, according to computor 34.6mpg in the gti and an amazing 48.9mpg in the gt tdi, they may sound like a tractor when cold and being pushed, but once they are chipped they go very well.

I bet you carn't guess what I ordered? clue better fuel comsumption, and in daily driving little to pick from in real world performance.

Ps- yes I am a tight and dislike giving my hard earned cash to the goverment in excessive amounts of fuel duty.

Hi, it's true that diesels are now getting silly. ?they shouldn't be fast, but they are. ?My work car is a disco TD5....that's the exception
