I have just bought a 1988 Mk2 Gti 8v which has BBS Alloys all round. Were they fitted as standard? (Its for the insurance!)
Any help much appreciated

depending on what they are - yes!! they were a dealer option.

they were never fitted as standard. they were an option on the later 90spec.

Im not sure about this but i think its the BBS RA's that were fitted as an upgrade i had BBS RA's on my 1991 Golf mk2 8V and they were original with the car when bought, so unless you have split rims on an 8v then thats not standard but if they are RA's then that can be classed as original to the car.

Just in case you was un sure about what RA's look like i have found a set on ebay if these are what you have on your car they are classed as original for the car as i checked when i insured my car with these alloys.
Hope this helps!!

they were an option on all but the very last of the line mk2 8v j plate 92ers where they were fitted ass standard. i suspect cos vw were trying to use bits up. these cars also had tinted rea lights and rainbow stripe interior

I'm just looking for some of these alloys and I thought that I'd let you know that some bloke has 5 sets for sale on eBay. Good chance of a bargain I think...
