Been a good 15 years since I've painted one of these, I still suck at it!

You should of seen my LOTR ones. Big names I painted, but the standard soldiers....It was more like dipping them in the paint pot

Looks good though, I never had a steady hand for them.

Cheers, I used to do it back in the early 90's as well. I seem to be able to paint them much better now than I used to. Think I must have more patience than I did back then.

Just finished my 2nd one, a bit better than the 1st.

are you the type that used to spend his day in the warhammer shop with the big role playing game in the middle on weekends? i knew a few who did that!

Post by: Horney on 18 December 2010, 23:43
Never used to play in the shop, had a 6' x 4' board at home and used to play my bro and some of my mates on that. It was converted from when it was for my train set when I was a little kid.

Not played DoW (PC only isn't it?) but I'm well looking forward to this on Xbox in March. Already pre-ordered my copy.

DoW is epic, if you like warhammer and RTS then you'll love it, can't see it working on the xbox though as you really need a mouse and keyboard for an RTS.

Some pretty awesome miniatures, I've got a dark angle army in the loft somewhere, I can raise the geek level even more as I was in an issue of white dwarf  :nerd:  :lipsrsealed:

I haven't got a PC otherwise I'd be all over DoW.

You were in WD? Yeah that takes it to a whole new level!

That said I kinda might of agreed to go to a local games night in the new year to acually have a table top battle. I think the rules have changed a bit since the 1st Edition ones I used to play! My mat einvited me after seeing the pics on facebook, he's a hrdcore geek and has Golden Demon award to his name for best army.

I was a warhammer fan, blates. Orcs were a good crack to paint.

Me and a group of mates used to go around a friends house a couple of times a week and play necromunda mostly.

I had armies of Lizardmen, and Van Saar characters. They were IMMENSE!
Title: Re: Geeking out (Warning: Warhammer 40K content inside, if cool look away now!).
Post by: Horney on 21 December 2010, 12:01
For me back in the day  Warhammer = Empire and Warhammer 40K = Orks. Was always more Warhammer than 40K for table top but used to play large amounts of Space Hulk and Blood Bowl.

I gave it all up when I went to college as beer and women became my main hobby besides cars. My folks loft is soo getting raided over Christmas as I think I have quite a lot of stuff I can flog on eBay to fund a new Ultramarines army.

It's a matt, on which you move the little metal figures around in a simulated battle.

A mate of mine paints these silly little figures as a side-line.  Makes several thousand a year from doing it.  Beautifully illustrates the maxim about fools being easily parted from things...

Creatures, probably of troll descent used to come and inhabit my living room for an evening once every few weeks and move their little metal figures around on such a matt.

Nick

Awesome stuff! Got to love a Necron Monolith and Warriors armed with Gauss flayers...

This time round I am more into the novels, Dan Abnett and Aaron Dempski Bowden to name a couple of the good authors.
Just finished Deliverance lost and Know No Fear, great books which build a picture of the what and whys of the imperium

Did you paint the battlements or were they ready done in kit form?

Nice work on the red thing btw.

Battlements came pre painted - the red thing was painted by MrsH.
