Title: Mod Friendly Insurance Campanies
Post by: Jimmymature on 18 December 2010, 13:38
Hi gents, can you recommend any mod friendly insurance companies please? I pick my MK6 up next week and want to pick an insurance company that doesnt mind mods if i choose to add them in the future.

Or alternativly advise those companies you know wont allow modifications.

Thanks again for all help and advice.

Bell - up to 3 minor mods, no massive changes in premium.

HIC/Adrian Flux are supposed to be cheap, but never really got me a good deal.

Adrian Flux for me in a modified Mk6 GTI & highly modified Mk3 GTI.
All mods declared, replacements of aftermarket parts, vastly higher power outputs no issues...and they have a fairly sensibler approach to things like uprated brakes & winter tyres.

Have been with Bell/Admiral previously...and anything from the options list is classed as a Mod, and they only replace 'modified' parts with standard parts...so you decide if you are properly covered or not.
They are pretty good for a few mild mods though.

RAC... an absolute bargain compared to what others quoted. 30yrs old, 5yrs ncb... a few points

At the risk of starting another debate. Bell offer modified parts cover to replace modded parts like for like - usually another £30 IIRC.

Do you think it's likely that Admiral and the likes would insure my car if i get a Bluefin fitted or is it the smaller specialized companies th at don't mind covering mods?

Cheers,

Jim

They wouldn't quote me with one fitted.

I was with Bell/Admiral for years and was happy with them. As long as it's fairly small mods that fall into theit generic catagories, they are fine.
I must have been with them for nearly 10 years...but my cars just got too modified or too expensive to risk the whole 'option = modification' saga.
Otherwise, they were great.

That's a good deal..they never offered me that.
In many cases, the aftermarket bits are cheaper too...but they said they'd only return it to standard.

It's worth specifically asking and verifying though, just for peace of mind.

I used comparethemarket.com and Admiral and Elephant came out best with no premium increase. They were brilliant value for money.

Adrian Flux were utter rubbish and quoted me £1950 whereas Admiral and Elephant were £550.
This quote was for an ECU modified car parked in London Zone 2, with a £100 excess, legal cover, European cover etc, etc.

Again GolfTi came to the rescue at the time.

Sorry for the thread hijack but did you have any problems getting two cars covered at once with them?

I used to be with direct Line, then i got my bluefin and they wouldn't insure me any more - no mods apparantly. Did a meerkat search (there is a tick box option for mods on the online quote system) and Admiral turned out about £150 cheaper than direct line without the bluefin. So, yes they do insure some mods.

Adrian Flux were very friendly but around £300 more expensive.

No, as I have 3 sets of NCD from running 3 cars for long enough...so although they are both with AF, they are different policies, both with full NCD entitlement.
