Title: Interior Light
Post by: Judderi on 15 February 2005, 15:31
My interior light does not come on when i open the doors. It does work because when the switch is pushed back or forwards it comes on but stays on. What position should it be in to come on when the doors are opened? Ive cleaned up the contacts for the door pins with no result. Any ideas guys and girls?

P.S Its a time delay model, is it possible this has failed?

Forwards (ie closest to the windscreen) is for door actuated lighting, middle is for off, and back is permanant on. If the delay had failed, i think you'll find it just goes off straight away when you shut the door.....

So if its on all the time do you think it has a permanent earth when it should only have an earth when a door is open? i.e bare wire touching metal?

Yeah, it must be really. First step is to take the little circuit board out and look for any breaks in the tracks, or if any of the components have bad burn marks etc.... Also, try the light before you fit the delay circuit back in, if its fine, then go to the scrappy and get a new circuit board, or leave it out if not fussed! If its not the board, then it could well be a bare wire in the roof somewhere, or where it goes through the A pillar, perhaps even near the switch.... Test it with the door shut to a screw somewhere or something, It shouldnt make a contact
