Hi all, I currently have a reverse camera in conjunction with my RCD510. I will be trawling eBay for a second hand RNS510 but I need to make sure I can still use the camera on the RNS510.
What do I have to make sure (if anything) so that the RNS510 I get will display the reverse camera correctly?
Thanks in advance.

There is no difference in RNS versions that will effect your reverse camera - its all about coding.
Ideally you want a C version - as they can take the latest firmware versions without having problems. Even better would be to get an LED screen version as they're newer and have a sharper looking screen with an LED backlight (lights up quicker and more responsive to touch).
The reverse camera is coded using VagCom software - so you may need to find someone with a VagCom lead to help you out (or go to the dealer) to get it coded properly.
Try Darren (mortygt140) for an RNS510 as he usually has the latest models at a good price. He'll also help you fit / code it if you're in his area!

Version C gives a very good picture ;-)

Its the LED version screen that gives the sharper screen.
Some of the C versions are still the older models.

I have just retrofitted an RNS510 and can confirm that the reversing camera does not work. Think I need to code the RNS so that it knows that a camera is fitted. Also MFD and some buttons on the MFSW
not working.
-
^^^ Yep you do (though you need to code the car to the RNS not the other way round! Some forums members on here local to you will be able to help). Welcome along BTW, tell us more about your car

I think by saying your confirming it doesn't work is slightly misleading. It does work but you need to tell the car you have installed a RNS510
This thread shows you the coding you need http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=152441.0

I assumed that becaused I had the RCD510/camera option, the car already knew the camera was fitted, but the RNS did not. I am hoping once the car can see the RNS/navigation unit, that everything will be OK again. thanks for the coding info
-
No. You then have to tell the car you have the navigation unit for it to talk to that (MFSW buttons and Nav on MFD) and tell the RNS510 you have the camera unit.
I went from the RCD to the RNS thinking it would just be a plug and play job but the car needs told basically
The nav on the MFD is very impressive once coded.

2010 GTi MK6 3 door, black, 18" Monza Shadow 2's, rear camera, winter pack, ipod/USB connectors, storage pack. Not planning any major mods apart from the navi upgrade. Would like phone bluetooth paired to the RNS. Next job.

Has anyone got a full coding list for the RCD to the RNS upgrade on the MK6? Would be helpful to anyone thinking of doing this to get the MFSW/MFD/camera working or does the thread by p3eps cover it all?
-
p3eps post covers it all. You only have to tell the car you have NAV and the rear camera.
-
Thats great. thanks.

Iggis the car doesn't know you have the rear camera, the golf camera system is not like the one on other vw models i.e Passat/Pas CC, Touareg, Tiguan. The golf is just an AV feed to view video...Whereas the Passat uses a dedicated camera module and needs the Camera Module 6C ticked in the CAN Gateway.
Once you fit the RNS510 its only coding in the RNS to let it know the camera is there and to open the AV channel to the camera once reverse is selected.

Thanks Darren, I am surprised it cant be done through the RNS setup if it is only an AV feed. I will try through VCDS tomorrow.

Ok, sucess. Well, partly. I have got the rear camera working, but not the MFD (navi instructions) or the MFSW (<> buttons). I selected the shortpress steering wheel option and deselected BAP. Also all my button lights have turned red (instead of white).
Any ideas? Golf MK6 with RNS510
cheers,
Ian

You need Bap enabled for a Mk6.
Also what buttons do you mean are red instead of white?

thanks Steve, BAP enabled sorted it. Note that I had to do a soft reset on the RNS to get it to work, (<>+i). The buttons I mean are everything that is backlit on the doors and dash.
cheers,
Ian

They are meant to be red are they not? So yours were white and then changed to red?

Yes, unless, I'm having a senior moment lol

The only real problem with rearview camera is the fitment of the cables/harness, you need to put it through the ceiling and then down the hatch, be sure to order the whole harness because fitting the cables through the rubber-like fitting on the hatch is quite difficult. Also remember to put a Fuse in a plce easy to get and change.
