Gotta do it unfortunately. We share the cost and its going to work out pricey.

The upshot is we're going joint on the upgrade. Might be getting a 130 or 150bhp MK4 Diesel. Here's hoping...

The online book value i can access is parkers which rates it at that.

Also cars on the south coast are a little more than up north. Seems to be the going rate on Autotrader.

Who do you reckon 'the burningman' is? he's got to be from honestjohn. I saw some of your threads on honest john, i read the one about chipping a vr6, i don't know how you can write on there without swearing at them. Unbelieveably ignorant and arrogant people.

Good luck selling the golf mate.

Cheers mate. I actually MOT'd it this morn (always intended to sell it when MOT'd) and it only went a passed thru first time. great!

As it looks so damn good at the moment - really clean, tidy and running so smoothly after the recent service along with this mornings MOT pass i'm kinda tempted to keep it now!

Jeez, i'll feel like a bird of i keep changing my mind.

Regards HJ site i go on for a bit of an argument. I'm sure if i put any words harsher than 'stupid' in a post it would cut out they're so anal. I hope my chip post read ok. I like to disagree with them - a lot! nobjockeys.

DONT DO IT!!!!! Mind you if you get a 130 or 150 thats not so bad. I do about 70 miles a day to and from work and its not ideal but that costs me about ?150-170  per month (around 2k miles per month). Admittedly a diesel will be far better, but that is dual carrriageway driving with lots of hold ups at either end. Mind you as the boss doesnt contribute I do tend to stick around the 65 to  70mph range.....apart from the weekends!! Stick with the Mk3 as it sounds mint.

I would have thought the mpg on the 8v would be quite good anyway.

Mixing me and bird driving we get 350 miles, whereas she gets 470miles p/m out of her 316 compact. I get 30mpg round town and 36mpg on a motorway.

also a diesel will be quicker in gear than the 8v.

Your MPG isn't very good for a 8v mate, needs a service! my vr6 does mid 30's on the motorways, and high 20's around town(unless i boot it all the time).

just been serviced. Its always been the same. I only do 6 miles a day myself so it never gets a chance to average out fuel consumption (read 15mpg for for first 1 1/2 miles of the day). I've got an average of 34mpg on the clock at the moment which is a mixture of town and motorway, but mostly town. If i do a long journey i'll get 37-39mpg.

Its so smooth at the moment its tempting to keep it..... ;)

I'd keep it mate! If you are gonna do more motorway driving you're gonna get a better mpg.

very true!! However its the difference between filling up once a week or every 2 weeks.

Maybe i can sell it then say i've bought a golf diesel. She might not notice the VR6 badge, black leather and blueberry paint....

Jeez my foot must weigh a lot, just been serviced and still only an average of 29 in my 8valve!
A lot of short journeys though so i guess thats it

Yep probably. Short journeys are the death for petrol engines.
