Title: Rear Recaro's?
Post by: ggoodwin on 15 December 2010, 22:21
Does anybody know if there is any difference in the rest of the interior with a Mk2 Recaro interior other than the front seats?  I've got a standard ultraviolet interior and I was wondering if the rear bench was the same on the ultraviolet Recaro interior or if it was also Recaro specific.

Thanks for any info.

Nope Rears are a standard item - other than 60/40 split or with/out headrests

Thanks for that.  It was gradually dawning on me that this might be the case.  I sold my previous Golf with a pristine ultraviolet electric Recaro interior (incl. rear headrests) and have regretted it ever since.  My current one has the same interior but with the standard front seats and I'd like to go back to the Recaro's at some point if I can find any decent examples.  At least this means I would only really need the front seats although I appreciate they would probably come as a package.

Thanks again  .

Surf round Ebay.de for some...

I bought my ED1 from Germany and they are superb....

Don't know if they call 'em UV's but have a look for Golf II recaro,,,,

That's worth knowing, thanks :) . Wish I'd done German at school now but, fortunately one of my kids did!

There are plenty of free online translation sites.

As for finding mint seats, you are better off accepting that they are going to be few and far between. It's may be better to find a set of Recaros for the right money and spend a bit more on getting them re trimmed. This may mean buying another set just for the material, but at least the finished items will be spot on.

I've just bought a set of so called mint 60/40 with headrests rainbow rears. To be fair they weren't too bad, but were dirty, had the plastic hinge covers missing and screw holes in the backs. I bought another seat from a GL that had all the bits on that I needed, stripped the covers off the GTI ones to wash them, then rebuilt them to make a complete mint set.

To me, doing this is all part of the fun.

Ah yes, I know all about the 'fun' factor  .  My current seats are a set of Recaro's I got from a Mk3 which I refurbished and modified to fit the Mk2.  They are great seats and it is nice having the split seat in the back but as I've got the full UV interior excluding the front seats then it would be nice to get it back into 'Mk2 mode'.

Speaking of the material, does anyone know if the plain grey material of the standard UV seats are a match for the grey of the UV Recaro's and could be used as donor material for a bolster repair?

Thanks for all the help.

yeah its the same fabric, trouble is having enough of it to do all the different parts of the seats. luckily the later seats are fabric on the back too iirc, unlike the earlier ones which are vinyl.  if you keep eye on ebay.de sometimes you get bits of fabric for sell, passenger side fabrics would be minty fresh and perfect for you :)

That's good news!  Fortunately, I have a perfect set of front and rear standard UV seats sitting in my loft  . So if I can track down the front electric UV Recaro's then I don't have to worry too much about carrying out repairs to them.

How much are a set of electric Recaros worth?
Title: Re: Rear Recaro's?

depends on the pattern and condition, saw some go for 350 on ebay which were pretty good but a little bolster wear. can go for upwards of 500 if mint, more if with rear headrests. also depends how much of the interior there is, complete set worth more than just fronts on the sets where the material is recaro specific that is.  the earlier mk2 recaro seat fabrics are recaro specific, so if only the fronts this can hurt the value as it means the buyer has to try to find the matching bench. at least with the uv seats the rears are the same as std anyway so no big deal.

Well I paid nearly a Grand for my set of ED1's from Germany... In March this year... Expensive but to me worth every penny...

It included rear bench with headrests, Door cards & Leccy Fronts with Loom etc... In Superb Condition...

But I have seen the price's slowly come down in Germany... I Nearly bought a set of ED1 leccy fronts for 480.00 Euro last week (Shipped).

Only boster rip is an inch on the drivers side. Very good condition bolsters all round. Electric and solid rear (not 60/40 split). What are these worth? So sorry for going off topic.

Thanks for the link which I'm sure will be good for someone but I'm going to have to go for the ultraviolet trim with everything I've already got.

Speaking of which. It's not a problem to me going off topic, Adam.  But, are you looking to buy these or sell them?

In that case, I don't think they're worth that much, really ;) .  Seriously though, I would be interested if you can get an idea of what you'd sell them for.  Mine is a 5 door and it now seems I have everything except for the fronts but I'd be happy to buy the lot which then gives me some options for sorting out the bolster.  Please PM me if you want to.

If you are willing to split the door cards then let me know.

i recon might be able to get 300 or a bit more for just the front seats, having the complete interior may push the price up. there were a few mint kits on ed38 but they were all slow to sell as its wrong time of year to sell high value stuffs.  the link above price is higher mainly due to the rear headrests and having the matching bench, since that pattern is recaro specific and almost never see it with the correct rear headrests included as well.

the market seems to be dropping for the recaros, a complete corrado recaro interior in that pattern went for only 500 on ebay recently, and thats the more rare version with electric tilt and height adjust!

Don't rub it in, that's exactly what I pretty much gave away with my last Mk2  .  I thought I was moving 'on' to the Mk5 scene but 6 months later I remembered why I liked the Mk2.  I should have put the car in storage!

yeah the base frames swap over but obv you wont have tilt if fitting to mk2 recaros :)
the corrado recaros are a bit different in shape to the mk2s, the backrest is kinda thinner if that makes sence, plus the plastic trim for the switches goes round the front of the seat to cover the height adjust motor.  trouble with corrado seats is they're rare, so if you have a damaged bolster pretty much only option is to get a trimmer involved to repair since finding a good passenger seat to pillage is gonna be unlikely!
