Title: Engine Swap Question???
Post by: dannyd126 on 15 December 2010, 20:04
This is going to sound really amateur but i wanna know if its worth it, but my mate has offered me a 1.8 turbo lump out of an auto passat for 350 pound with 85k on the clock.

How much work would it take to drop this into my 1.6 16v mk4 golf?

And is it really worth it?

Much work as the Passat engine is mounted the other way.

Would think only the block is useable and maybe a few other bits.. Can't use the turbo, manifold, etc I don't think or the other ancillaries.

Passat 1.8T's are cheep and to be honest i wouldn't pay £350 for one to put in a golf.  they are very usefull and cheep replacement engines if you've had a golf one spray it's internals down the road. other than that there to much bother cheep just to buy a golf one mk4's are actualy cheep enough for donors now
