Post by: mowlamb on 15 December 2010, 14:43
Any guys on here sanded down the net optic trim to get the Ali finish like the anni and r32's? If so how is best to do this?

1200 & 2000 grit and plenty of elbow grease. Just keep the surface wet so that you dont clog the paper up with filings.

Take your time.

Im re-laquering a r32 trim using, 800, 1200 grit and then going to laquer

Cheers Hulmie, doesn't sound to bad a job. Undecided on whether I want the ali look or if i should stick to the net optic.

Sorry to hijack but did you buy the trim pieces from a stealer? If so do you have the part numbers and prices?

Bought them from Ebay at a guess

Stealer prices are urm pricey!!

Yeah got it off ebay mate. All I'm missing is the ash tray cover atm. Keep looking on ebay and you'll see sets pop up.

the absolute easiest way of stripping them is to use paint stripper on them it will loosen up and remove all the actual thread that is pressed on to it to give the chequered look so to speak and it will also lift off the brown paint to leave nice shiny underneath
this is how i did mine
