Title: Taking Delivery
Post by: javsta on 14 December 2010, 21:47
Hello All

Sincere apologies if this is in the wrong place.

I have decided to purchase a VW for the first time and seeking some advice. I am having it delivered to me, is there anything specific that I should be looking out for?

Do these cars still require break in?? if so what period and how have people driven theirs

Depending on the method delivery - Damage i.e. they drive it to you (stone chips), or they put it on the back of a lorry or something (dents).  They do still claim in the manual that they need running in.

I would collect if I were you if its not that far.

Brand new vehicle - check fluid levels, as I found out that they are filled only to a minimum !

Ask if it's had a pre delivery inspection before it comes to you? What car is it?  :undecided:

Check the paint for orange peel, notorious for crap paintwork!

It is guaranteed to have it. I haven't seen a MK6 without it. Not sure you would notice it as much though on a white car. More likely a dark coloured car. This is mine. It looks absolutely terrible in this picture but it is nowhere near as bad in real life. In fact I certainly didn't notice anything when I collected it.

There is a thread somewere in this section that i added what to look for. There is a post that was originally done by RedRobin and myself for the mk5 back in 2005 on another forum but adapted for the mk6. It also has a copy of the SEAT PDI form to tell you what dealers do on the PDI.
I think this is it http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=147499.0 but not 100% as im short of time at the moment.

Forget orange peel, Look for black dots on the paintwork in places. V common on candy white, You will have to look close though.
