Title: Running Rich?
Post by: mongchops on 14 December 2010, 20:03
Lo Folken.

Got a 16v that seems to be running rich, as if the choke is still out, as the emissions are smokey with out actually being smoke (if you know what I mean). It is what I would expect to see of a normally choked car just started up on a cold day but it is constant, even when having been driven for a fair while.

Can I get the engine tuned to rid me of this vapour but still return the 30mpg that I get at the mo?

Your thoughts would be most welcome.

Showing an incredible amount of ignorance and risking ridicule, how do I tell?

if its a 16v it'll just be plain old k-jet, unless it has a cat or is an import (rare)

there are some guides on the 16v setup in the maintenance section :)

When I changed my metering head I had a problem of over fueling, tried every thing with no joy then someone on here told me to check the control plunger wasn't sticking, it's located underneath the metering head you can take it out without taking the fuel lines off so there's no need to replace the crush washers, just undo the metering head lift it onn the housing the undo the nut underneath take the pin out and clean it with carb cleaner, it seemed to work fine after, if that doesnt work could be the cold start valve fooked, but dont hold me to that.

Go into the maintenance section and read the K Jet manual.  Should give you an understanding on how it works, and help you to diagnose problems.

Just to be clear.

You have a car that runs fine, returns 30+ MPG, doesn't smoke and doesn't run lean?

I wouldn't even touch it if that is the case, its working fine :)
