will suspension made to fit a mk3 1997, fit a mk2? I heard somewhere that 94 onwards wont fit?

It should do,I fitted my old mk2 shocks and springs on my bro's '96 diesel mk3 last year, think it was a straight swap (from what I remember), left the bonrath lowering front caps on em aswell which were on em on the mk2.

Yes but you might need to change the top mounts.

any mk3 suspension will fit, difference is the top mounts as said. GTI all have heavy duty top mounts, and the non-GTI switched to these post 96. either top mount will fit, the GTI style ones are recommended as a good upgrade :)
just a case of will you be getting the whole setup complete, or just shocks and springs. if they're just springs and post-97 chances are you'll have no choice but to use the heavy duty top mounts anyway as since the springs are larger diameter than MK2 ones your old spring plates and mounts wont fit. either way, buy new top mounts to match before you fit unless you know they're pretty new

Spring rates aren't adjustable ;)

I found that spring rates are in fact adjustable. You just need the right adjustment tool.
I used an angle grinder.

hang on, are you saying that even tho I can adjust the height of each shock it still might not sit even? or will it actually work fine and your just being awkward to scare me :p cause I dont wanna waste another 120 quid

the MK3 is heavier. Therefore the springs are thicker and/or have a greater tensile strength. If you stuck them on the MK2 the car would naturally sit higher as there isn't the weight to compress the spring. By compressing these springs to make them shorter, for the MK2 , you are also making them stiffer. The spring is now compressed even more so it will have less travel and a produce a stiffer ride.

so they will be fine, and sit evenly, but be stiffer? well thats what I want cause ive got arch scrub issue with my wiiiide ass wheels :D

yeah,as above. Spring rates are the kg rating attached to a spring.
Heavier cars have 'stiffer' springs, to function with the additional load.
When you put springs from a heavier car on, it will make the ride firmer (how much depends on how much the rates differ)
You'll still be able to adjust the height, it just might be a rough ride ;) maybe there is someone about who is using mk3 coils on their mk2 who can comment.
