hey guys. so I have attempted by myself to wire in a sub with built in amp in my mk4 1.8t and everytime I start the car the sub seems to get a power surge and kicks out one thumping noise. I wired the sub to the ignition and the amp control to the anntenae and used rcd fir the speakers. it didn't do this in my last car. please help cos I'm sure it's not normal. thanks guys!!!

Are you running a live wire straight from the battery?
-
no I don't think so just ignition
-
I would suggest wiring it properly (not saying what you have done is wrong) - Live wire straight from the battery, then the remote from the headunit to the sub to tell it to turn on.
Also make sure that the earth wire is touching bare metal not a painted surface - this is one of the most important things that you need in the system
Also make sure the fuse is the right amount to work with your wiring
-
Sounds like a poor earth to me.

Where are you based? could a fellow dubber help?

I live in taunton. it's earthed properly.

if it's earthed properly i would wire it up the way P884 POT has described.

+1 make sure its a decent earth as that is a the cause of so many problems when its a rubbish one

Yes make sure it is a decent bit of bare metal that is not painted.
