hey guys, just about to get my loom fitted for front fog lights, been reading elsewhere that i've to fit a relay in fuse box location 10, 2 questions
1) is the wiring to and from the relay already there
2) what rating relay do i need to use?
car is a golf CL which i am upgrading
-
relay wiring is all there, you need a vw '53' relay plentiful in scrappies. in the bay itself the wiring from the headlight round plug to fogs isnt there, so you need to get this.
Only thing I'm not sure about is if on the mk3 you can add just the fog light bit, or if you have to replace the entire lighting loom from the slam panel?
-
cheers jonny but as i posted, i have the folg light loom already which i have just fitted,
-
ah ok didnt spot that! just plug it in and you'll be all set wiring wise. along with the 53 relay you need the different headlight switch which has 2 clicks for front + rear fogs :)

already sorted too
does anyone know of a patern relay that will match the "52 relay" that i need? would like a new relay but not at VW prices
-
alrighty then, hopefully you have another 53 relay on the fusebox for the horn or the lambda heater, if so pop it out and match the leg positions to various aftermarket relays. if it was me id be down the scrappies on the scrounge :)

well, an update on this, fitted the new loom that i got, and quite a few issues with it, so i've stripped back the loom completly and removed the fog light wiring, would it be safe enough to then install onto original loom?
-
as long as you do it right there shouldnt be any problems :)
-
interesting, i just swapped looms, and hey presto, is it cos its a gti 8v already? and this is a gl..
so should i of fitted a relay? lol cos 6months and no probs, (touches wood!)

Yes you really should run / fit a relay.

cheers for info, but if there is no relay, (i havent checked to see if one there) they wouldnt work would they cos there would be no power to them?
think ill check on my day off on friday, i feel there is one there thou for some reason :undecided: :undecided:
perhaps it did have fogs before, and they were removed but not the relay, and then i put em back in :) lol, the joys of the unknown...

Think I see whats going down, I've got a fuse for front fogs which is correct but where the relay would be I have a bridge bar, which would be better to be replaced with a relay? Anyone know how much vw want for one?
Cheers
