Title: Bottom ends!!!
Post by: benji mk2 on 14 February 2005, 16:19
So, I want to fit a 2.0 litre bottom end to my 1.8 8v k jet Mk2 gti engine. I know that lots of different bottom ends will fit but, I'm not sure which ones. Can anyone tell me which will fit and from what cars??   Also does any one here have one for sale???

 Cheers troops!!

This seems like a relatively cheap mod if you have the know how. I too am interested in this. Is there a block that really is just a straight swap? I.E 2.0 block with crank, pistons etc that'll sit between a totally stantdard 8v digifant head and box?

I'd assume that if this does exist then it would be possible to do this swapin a day assuming you have all the gaskets, tools etc and nothing breaks.

you need bigger valves etc in the standard head as the valves will restrict the air flow and reduce top end response

this is a piece of wee wee as i have done his conversion? ?

I have an AGG bottom end with my PB digifant head on top a 2E engine dizzy and standard gear box.
This will all make sence if you read this:http://www.clubgti.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=20920&PN=1

back at ya?

....coupled with a hot cam, gas flowed head and decent straight through exhaust you can get some good power and torque for hardly any money at all?.

but if its done properly?, oh and wasnt that more or less coupled with the etc

then later

What kind of RPM does your motor tail off at rags??

answer

5k ish i reckon...
so that would be a good 1500 less that what it originally had...... and why? GAS FLOW

sorry your point was tw*t (you could of used an "i disagree", but no lets go for the abuse eh)

spoke to a couple of scrappers and found an AAD?? bottom end from an Audi 80. delievered for a ?120 or a full Mk3 gti 2.0 engine for ?150 delivered. Seems OK. Ive already got a gti engineering head so no probs with the gas flow, just need a big lumpy cam    Think I'm gonna get one and then re build it with lots of lightend and balanced goodies. Fun and games!!!!!

I think the CGTI guys do some times have a tendancy to make things a little over complicated.

I did all of my conversion on my own.

I got a complete 1998 AGG block from a mk3 gti for 150 quids. (just used the bottom end and blanked the breathers)

A 2e code engine dizzy for ?40. (PB dizzy wont fit and AGG dizzy wont work with digifant)

Then ported and polished the PB head my self and fitted a kent fast road cam. Then plonked on AGG block with AGG head gasket.

It now also has a 4 in to 1 stainless header/downpipe feeding the magnex zorst.

Dont know whats wrong with them CGTI boys motors but mine revs right round in all gears. I could proberly do with a sixth gear.

using me standard clutch and cog box but it could proberly do with a new clutch now

its a great conversion  i would definatly do it again if i had to

see now this is annoying me a bit. i cracked a piston and thought about going for the 2ltr option but was advised by somne very good vw tuners that it wasn't worth it and was advised to bore mine out to 1900 rather than go for a 2ltr?

i guess its a matter of preferance with some people but i trust the guy i asked as i've seen a whole load of engines he's built and he has such a good reputation. so i took his word for it and the engine is being bored out. would be nice to have some sort of comparison though. maybe when its all done i'll have a meet up with you jimbo and we can compare( oo-er!) !!

how much did it set you back to have it bored out? rob

not alot, i'm thinking of seeing if they'll offer a bit of a discount to future users from this forum. they do all sorts of cars and were knife edging a crank from a supra hitting almost 1000bhp!!!!! the bore cost ?65 but i wanted all new bearings and obviously had to buy the matching pistons etc.

cool, so what was the total cost of what you had done? and was there a good performance difference? rob

don't know yet!! its still all in bits waiting for my head to come back and then i'll bolt it all back together when i get the chance and time and decent weather.... its been dragging on but i'm in the mood to get it all finished now..............
