Afternoon all,
Well been reading on these forums for a while now and think ive been convinced to travel up to R-tech and have a remap done. Question I have is before I do this I just tried to get an insurance quote first and they didnt seem to have a clue what a remap was. So what you tell them it is? As its not a chip.
Also anyone got any rought cost per year it added to there policy please?
Thanks
Kev

Engine modification
Who are you insured with?
Costs will vary greatly depending on your age, location, car etc etc so whilst some people will only pay £50 per year extra, others may well find their premiums doubled
-
r tech did my gti brilliant, insurance only went up £35 a year
-
Some of them have engine modification down as chip. Basically they're interested in what your BHP will go up to....
-
Whats been said already the insurance company are only interested as its an increase to the BHP figure over standard spec
and DO INFORM YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY!! if you don't and you end up having an accident your insurance company will most defo void your insurance policy saving money now WILL cost you later if you do have a mishap P***es me off people WHO DON'T declare any engine mods etc to their insurance company end of the day us honest drivers end up paying for these t**ts and makes me sick they deserve to have their insurance voided imo!!!
rant over but i bet i'm not alone with this opinion

very true there fella its the innocent ones that get the backlash  and all for bein honest

I was with Bell Insurance a couple of years ago and I think they are linked with Admiral in some way?
I told Bell I had a remap done and immediately over the phone, they cancelled my insurance their and then.
-
i was also with bell they quoted but premium went up from £214 to £900 got it with saga £270
-
Oh my thats harsh! What insurance you with now then? Yes bell are apart of Admiral.

admiral or elephant should cover your remap (they did on mine previously) but expect ~30% premium increase.
As said above, best to part with the ££ now if you want the extra bhp as its much cheaper than void insurance in a crash (for you and everyone else).
-
Ideally what you want to do is remap around the time when your insurance is due for renewal rather than midway through your policy. Any mods done halfway through normally gives the insurance companies license to print money
Wait until insurance renewal time so you're free to shop around and pick the best deal

Morning All,
Finally got round to ringing Admiral again. Quoteed £88 for the rest of the year for a BHP increase between 11% - 25%. My policy runs August to August so only four months into it.
Thoughts?
